Next pages in the small book. I’m working to improve myself and my habits for writing, so I’m looking to Hemingway and our shared dread for blank pages. I noticed I have a lot of “no thoughts, head empty” moments, so any way to get an edge is always appreciated. Also, I need more sleep. 🤷‍♂️

#drawing update: my mom recently gifted me a charcoal pencil set, so I got some supplies for my future works. Small book is for planning and ideas, bigger book for illustrations. Definitely going to need a few erasers for charcoal, and the markers are for later. A toast! To making progress! 🍻

Observation: Happiness appears to be found in the moments between moments, cannot be planned for or scheduled, but instead appears to flourish on its own, unprompted and unscripted. It does, however, seem to be attracted by interactions with others. TLDR: It appears I need to be social more often.

Reach out with friends and family you can be comfortable with when you’re feeling down and depressed. Seriously, it really helps, especially if you can share some time with each other. Even just being in the same voice chat, the same space or eating at the same time can be helpful.

Discontent
You create from discontent.
Most of your life has been spent being uncomfortable in your own skin. This body is just another house that's never felt like home. You don't know how to be at ease in this world or this life. Art is a way of running away, of forgetting yourself and escaping to a more comfortable place. To cope with an unhospitable reality, you create more welcoming worlds to consume your work and your waking hours. But the foundation of your art has always been your discontent with the real world and your life within it. Lurking behind the inviting scenery you dream of is the desperate desire to be anywhere but here. It is a world constructed as a respite from this one. Such vivid fantasies are the dream of one who considers reality a prison.

During 2022 there was a challenge called Fourtember. I wanted to create four scenes combining the “Heroic Arms” prompt with my love of Shining Force for the Sega Genesis. Yet I only made half of the first art piece… … Noticing I have “Peter Molyneux syndrome”: big ambitions but falling short. 😂

Earlier this year there was an art challenge to combine the top 3 played games on Switch into an art piece. I got Zelda, Zelda and Last Remnant. Only the first of 6 pieces were finished, but I’m happy with the effort nonetheless. Fusing Rush Sykes and two versions of Link was a good challenge.

I’ve done art challenges in previous years. Still working on being more consistent with putting ink to paper in real life or digitally. To be honest, making art daily isn’t easy for me, so I start falling off a couple weeks into October. Only made the wardrobe update for Magnus so far this year. 😢
