Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Fully agreed, but it will be the next few Presidents. Some institutions that were damaged or lost took decades to build. Repairing them won't happen in a single term. 030

Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 29/07/2026Weird how spikes started in 2016 then 2024. Why would something like that happen? 010
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 29/07/2026First, agreed with the policy, good to see. Had it not been in place, I would have loved to see what the crowd did to them. 000

I said "use superpowers to show me in a browser" and it still created an artifact to push to claude.ai/code/artifact/ and spun up the local dev server before getting it right. 000

Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 21/07/2026So, someone's omission of any possibility they didn't include in the 300 characters means they are wrong. Right. Sounds like a good faith discussion to me. Mute. 100
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 21/07/2026There is potential for a soft landing, but the same could be said about pent up demand in other cycles. My fear is that manufacturers will keep (some of) the inflated prices. Competition no longer means a race to the lowest price, it's about extracting as much money from consumers as possible. 000
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 21/07/2026Yes, the fact that he's actually attempting to test something is a positive sign. 0150

Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 20/07/2026There were two assertions in my comment, neither of which were regarding coordination. The straw man you present, which is not what I said, is indeed incorrect. 100
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 20/07/2026I agree there are more bad actors than good uses. I don't agree with the premise there are no legal use cases. The ability to avoid censorship, government overreach, and support causes anonymously has legal value. 000
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 20/07/2026What they want to do and what they will actually be able to do are two different things. They absolutely want control, and they are going to try. The decentralization means they won't ever have the same level control as they do the USD. 000
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 20/07/2026If it's a new project with low user count, that's really bad. If it's a project used by millions (billions if you include libraries) that started 30 years ago, it's not bad at all. (bad wording on my part, the 12k was historical, not one release) 020
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 20/07/2026How old was the project? 10k reports means your app has enough user engagement to reach that threshold, and that it's lasted long enough without users defecting. curl announced 12k+ bug fixes in one of their posts last year. 110
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 20/07/2026The message "datacenters aren't paying for the energy they use" gets spread, when they do pay for their own power. They aren't paying directly for the infrastructure upgrades needed for the local grid needed because of them. Attributing to the right cause matters when solving a problem properly. 010
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 20/07/2026Hank Green does a better job of explaining some of them than I can in 300 characters at a time: www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_c6...youtube.comWhy is Everyone So Wrong About AI Water Use??YouTube video by Hank Green 000
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 20/07/2026The issue is they give the wrong reason behind the real problems they are seeing, based off of misconceptions. They say money spent on datacenters is taking away from infrastructure (when it's private money, not public). They think it's the total water consumption, rather than where it's consumed. 200
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 20/07/2026Agreed, and a lot is laziness, lumping everything together with one label. Those are real problems. However, many people complaining aren't aware of those individual issues, it's just a reflexive "AI bad, so datacenter bad." They propagate incorrect information and discredit the real message. 110
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 20/07/2026That is my understanding as well. The post being about infrastructure projects people are mad about not happening, like rail and transit, eminent domain is usually needed. The level of effort and expenditure required by the government for a datacenter is much less. 000
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 20/07/2026Wait until you learn how infrastructure projects work, and the level of effort it takes to implement something like a rail project and using eminent domain for hundreds of properties. Thinking a datacenter takes nearly as much effort is extremely naive. 300
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 20/07/2026You do know crypto was started so that a central body couldn't control the currency, right? I'm not saying it has good uses, just that your hypothetical scenario is completely wrong. 220
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 20/07/2026First, don't mistake the comment as arguing for datacenters. Private projects on a single piece of land are faster than public infrastructure. A tax break that covers a tiny fraction of the cost is not the same as your taxes paying for it. If you want to make a change, get the facts straight. 210
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 20/07/2026One is private money on a single piece of private land, the other is public money. 350
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 18/07/2026It's a good suggestion, but backups are still necessary, just like any other data. Just make sure the copy is not subject to the whims or mistakes of any company. I uploaded to Google Music, but accounts can be taken down or hijacked, so I copied everything to a NAS. 010

Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 16/07/2026Some US states allow people, with photo evidence, to issue parking tickets for cars in handicap spaces. It would be great to see something like that for parking in a bike lane. 050
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 16/07/2026Part of the answer is incentives and how consumption is priced. Minimum grid connection fees on bills prop up existing plants when they are not producing. One thing TX actually got right is consumption pricing that ensures the cheapest sources get prioritized. Now it's the top producer of RE. 000
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 16/07/2026This echos Instagrammers calling themselves photographers because they posted an image that looked OK with a filter. The first relies on the computer to do it, the second understands the process and how to ensure repeatable quality. 021
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 16/07/2026Whether you agree with it or not, it was still a point. 000
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 16/07/2026Adding to that, OP said "Hollywood needs to stop" but that was user created, not Hollywood created. Their point still stands, just a bad example to use. 140
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 16/07/2026Same experience here with other embedded devices. Even when the code can be tested, and it's accurate, I've still gotten things like major screen flicker. A process with incremental changes, verified by a human each step, is going to always have better quality. 020
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 16/07/2026It's temporary amusement for revealing something that will be online forever. Years from now, you won't remember you posted it, but you'll use it as a password recovery question for a sensitive account. 001
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 16/07/2026People still haven't learned that the "your name is your grandfather's first name and X" threads are easily data mined for security question answers. Sharing just this, and another piece on a Facebook thread, and other places online, all gets correlated together. OSINT tools make it easy. 100
Brett McCully @bmccully.bsky.social · 15/07/2026Different models, but similar experiences here. I'm wondering if it's time to redo agent definitions. As models get "smarter," behavior changes. What works for one model may be different in another. 010
