Do you maybe think this could be something more specific to the jp region? I only know of this situation in power fantasy anime or bad harems. At least for bland self inserts. I think the west instead uses the camera more often as a male pov then jp, but could be just my experience.

I think the gaze desribes media from one of those 2 perspectives. Because they perceived each other differenty. Most women can e.g. Dress for the male gaze, "dress sexy", show lots of body, or dress more to what other women would like themselfs, "elegant, chic, beauty from within", ...

From the perspective of younger men, they want to look cool, sharp or strong, the other gender should be cute, likable and "attractive". Young women see themself as the woman of course so they want them to look pretty and relatable. Men now are the desire, so they have to look attractive to women.

All talk just in generell. Individuals can be very different of course. My most common example is manga styles. While no one has to follow them, they exist to address certain demographics. For example shojo is for young women while shonen is for young men.

Hmm i maybe this is a subcategorie of the male gaze. Because i thought that the m/f gaze, just focuses on generell preference of the sexes and depicts media through them. For example men like man often more overly muscular than women, it is like a power fantasy to them, while women don't care.
