Doing things in classrooms with computers a few days a week. Old fashioned, but in a good way. Digging, walking, cooking, cricket, coding, geographising, not necessarily in that order www.bluesquarething.co.uk

The first day of the last year I shall be a teacher. 0.5FTE so 98 days to go…
A computing classroom empty of anything other than computers. And a messy desk

Spotted in John Lewis in Norwich. Love the colour but: * Mercator projection? Really? * Japan? * Indonesia?? * Madagascar??! * Caspian Sea??!!!! #maps #BadMaps #mercator
A colourful map of the world with a number of issues, including a missing Japan, shrunken Indonesia, Madagascar far in to the Indian Ocean, and the Caspian Sea relocated to somewhere on the borders of India, Pakistani and Afghanistan. And it’s a Mercator projection.

Album of the day: 1001albumsgenerator.com/albums/5cboZ... Haven’t listened to this properly for years. Fabulous album, and The Queen and the Soldier is a masterpiece. Obvious 5/5 but I’m surprised Solitude Standing isn’t on the list

What is this radical idea?
The cover of the 1974 classic “History Fieldwork” by FJ Johnson and KJ Ikin. It is orange with a black and white image of what I assume is Stonehenge. I assume Year 9 are about to be let lose on the stones

Station one of (hopefully) six today
The canopy of Berlin Hbf at about 05:20 on 30 July. The sun is just thinking about rising properly.

Ooh, The Patch is back. Random postcode, always good for a listen. Did Polly Weston get here yet? www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...

Cricket is a game of beautiful views. I maintain that this is one of the best on the county circuit. Shame about the tips of the pylons in the distance though
View of a cricket ground- the St Lawrence ground in Canterbury from the upper floor of the Woolley stand. A game is in progress. Two scoreboards show the score, one s modern LCD screen the other a traditional hand operated beast that’s overlooked the ground for nearly a century. One of the Glamorgan batters almost has his own century.

Hottest day of the year you say?
A cricket match at the St Lawrence ground in Canterbury. A Middlesex batsman faces up to a ball swinging around off a greenish pitch. The sky is blue, it’s hot and all is good with the world for a few hours. Especially with Kent taking wicketsA view of the St Lawrence cricket ground at Canterbury. The trees may still be bare, but the sky is blue and it’s hot enough to eat ice cream. A Middlesex batsman faces up to a swinging ball, slip fielders waiting for a chance that never came. This time.

Lovely morning by the sea. And look at that storm beach…
A shingle beach, sea wall and odd building with a blue sky and the North Sea breaking on the beach. Looking south from Aldeburgh in Suffolk

I am fascinated by alternative centering on maps, and this one captures my imagination: "the world according to fish", showing the rivers, lakes and oceans, with ocean floor elevations. The world aquatic.
A version of a projection map of the globe titled "The world according to fish", using Elastic II projection. It's a blue blob of various shades of blue with land being white and featureless.

Wandering in Diss and came across this place. Normal for Norfolk
Government service scrap yard with Terminator style artwork sculpture. Also features anti-aircraft guns, bombs, missiles, and an anti-tank gun - all presumably decommissioned. And other general scrap. The gates of a government surplus scrap yard in Diss with various signs. Including “No parking, no clamps, no tickets, but we do have a large forklift” and “Military firing range”

A bit of website maintenance today And I've discovered the power of BBedit's multi-file search and replace function. Massive time saver That's all. I know it's geeky. I don't care 😀

What? There’s now a snow and ice warning covering the east coast. Why would you get my hopes up weather people?
Screenshot from met office app showing a yellow weather warning for snow and ice covering much of East Anglia and the east coast of Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.
