#Woodturning Roughing out a quarter sawn sycamore bowl today

Quarter sawn sycamore bowl about 11" in diameter and 5" deep turning it to about 1 1/16" wall thickness then putting it aside to dry. Green wood sure cuts easily like butter.

Turned the bowl around to start hollowing out the interior. I will leave tailstock support as long as possible.

Quarter sawn sycamore bowl blank ready to start turning a bowl

Quarter sawn sycamore rough turned about 9" in diameter, 4 1/2" tall, wall thickness about 7/8". Now I wait for it to dry.

#Woodturning What's on your lathe? Today a maple bowl with the first coat of shellac is on mine. 9.25" diameter 2 and 1/2" deep.

A maple bowl with the grain popping after applying the 1st coat of shellac. I'll put a couple more then buff with wax after the shellac cures. Then remove the tenon from the bottom.

#Woodturning what's on your lathe today. I have an elm bowl that I'm making feet so it will sit flat. I had turned it a while ago and the weight was constant for about a month however it warped the day after turning it to final thickness.

The top of the same elm bowl shows a pattern with the heart and sap wood. It's about 10" in diameter and about 2 1/2" deep.

#Woodturning I can't take credit for this, but check out this tiny segmented turning that was getting past around at the last woodturning meeting I went to. The segments are a 32nd of an inch tall.

Segmented turning held between my thumb and forefinger. The artist actually signed the bottom even. I can't see how one would actually make this.

#Woodturning What is on your lathe now? Here's what's on my lathe today, another green apricot bowl which I will turn with a live edge (hopefully the bark will cooperate).

Piece of apricot mounted on a faceplate with the bark towards the headstock.

Same piece of apricot after turning a tenon on the outside. Next step is to take it off the faceplate and turn it around mounting the tenon in a scroll chuck.

#Woodturning Here's an English Walnut bowl I just turned. Still have the tenon to remove later. Just put some walnut oil on and it really shows the natural beauty of the wood. It sure soaks up the oil I will put a few more on over the next hour

What's on your lathe today? I have a natural edge sweet gum bowl about 7" diameter 5" tall. Time will tell how much it warps as it is still green. This is my first natural edge bowl that I turned green.

What's on your lathe today, I have a segmented bowl made of cherry, maple, and Paduak. Just applying a lacquer finish then all that remains is to turn it around and remove the tenon and lacquer the bottom.

Feeling very grateful this morning, Thanos had eaten some bark enough to cause an obstruction. Several emergency vet visits later and he is recovering without having to undergo surgery. He lost about 5 pounds which is a lot for a miniature dachshund. He would not even eat boiled chicken.

Dachshunds can still reach their back paws with the cone of shame on. Why does this matter? Groot was at the groomer and kicked his back leg right into the scissors and cut the pad on his foot. Took 6 stitches which he pulled out 2 as soon as the bandage was removed.
