It is a pretty cool space. I worked on a couple of the new exhibits (the Laetoli footprints and the Titanic wreck). I do feel strongly though that all museums should be free or affordable. Lower income folk should have just as much access to knowledge and wonder as wealthy folk.

Video I took the first time I visited the exhibit once the snake had been introduced. I hope she feels at home!

My largest rainforest mural, about 315 square feet, painted in 2024 for the Saint Louis Zoo Herpetarium’s African Rock Python exhibit.

My mural of the McCord’s box turtle habitat in Guangxi China, for the Saint Louis Zoo Herpetarium, painted about 6 years ago I think.

Arizona Superstition Mountains mural for the Saint Louis Zoo Herpetarium. I painted it back in 2013. Still one of my favorites.
Saint Louis Zoo exhibit for Arizona desert lizards inside the Herpetarium, framed by 1920’s ornate columns topped with frog statues. Mural inside exhibit shows a clear blue sky and the orange-brown ridges of the Superstition Mountains. Closeup of a chuckwalla lizard sitting on a rock in front of the mural of the orange-brown Superstition Mountains.

Will even niche sub genres like paleo cartooning face extinction in the AI onslaught? Not if we don’t give up✊ I’m giving a presentation on paleo cartooning tonight for the Eastern Missouri Society for Paleontology.
A mutant ichthyosaur with spines on its back, extra eyes, extra fins, and the words “generative AI” written on it is emerging from the ocean waves and chomping down on the neck of a plesiosaur with “traditional paleo cartooning“ written on it.

Hampshire will be permanently shutting its doors after the Spring semester. I’m really bummed that the opportunity available to me will no longer be available to others. Support liberal arts education however you can.

No grades, only written evaluations, and everyone designs their own major. I met so many incredible people there who broadened my mind and heart, many who I still consider close friends.

I made these during my last year at Hampshire College for my Division III project: Teletravel, a Metaphysical Fable.” There is no other school out there with the same kind of radical approach to education that Hampshire has.

The Urban Fossil Hunter’s Guide to the Mississippian. I made this last year with my friend Asa Kaplan, who provided the paleontology expertise. We led an urban fossil walk with a group of all ages around the Bevo Mill neighborhood of St. Louis and used the zine to identify lots of fossils.

Abolish ICE. A little journal comic from South Minneapolis. #iceoutmpls #iceoutcomics #iceoutofmpls
Just before Christmas, I got a puppy.
Her name is Minerva, and we call her *Minnie.

I'm still learning how to understand her.

Me: Do you need to go outside? Do you need to go outside, little baby? Do you need to do a poo?
Do you need to do a widdle piddle?

Minnie: Arf!

*I just call her "little baby" most of the time.

I'm also realizing I can't turn off the baby talk now.
Nobody tells you about that.

I got so lucky with my first puppy.
Her wonderful foster parents had her completely house-trained by the time we adopted her, so taking her outside for potty time has been pretty easy. I've got the puppy poopy routine pretty much down, now.

Me, putting on my coat: Let's see... I got the little poopy bags, puppy treats for bribes, jacket, scarf, phone… I think that's everything… Oh yes! And my passport. I had been carrying around my passport for a while, but I knew it didn't matter. This is wrong. Nobody is required to carry around their papers.

I became a US citizen when I was seven. Since I was born in a refugee camp, I was stateless.
The US is the only nation where I've ever held citizenship. It's the only passport I've ever had, and it still felt important. Protective.

I would hold it in my pocket like a talisman, like it might ward off ghosts or something. But I realized I was holding onto it basically out of superstition.
ICE will pick up anybody.

I know that.

So I tucked my passport away.

And I largely avoid leaving my house.I live a few blocks just South of George Floyd Square. I was in the neighborhood for that, too.
And all the neighbors came together to protect each other. We're already organized.
We'll do our best to get through this.

Me, to my dog: I hope I can take you for a walk someday soon. Won't that be nice, little baby?

Cheesy family Christmas photo. Always tricky to get the turtle, cat, and dog to all stay still this long.

Trilobite cheer and happy New Year! Ink, watercolor, and digital. My favorite project I worked on in 2025 was the Urban Fossil Hunter’s Guide to the Mississippian, a sub period of the Carboniferous. I will post that later.

As a fossil enthusiast from St. Louis MO, this is one of my favorite stories from the history of paleontology! The tall tales of Albert Koch of how it used its tusks to grip the river bottom crack me up.

I haven’t actually played it yet, partly because fear of time commitment, which is perhaps why being short/one pager might be a good approach.
