This was a rough sketch at first, from the beginning of 2024 when I had been reflecting, on the devastation of losing my old confidant. She built me up to tear me down, it felt like. It was the greatest shame of my entire life, that the person who once held me in the highest regard, my oldest friend, would take all my money and kick me out of the life I helped her build. Over the course of the last three years, the wounds have scarred over, and there's nothing left to understand, yet, where once I remembered a tender face with a delicate smirk, I now knew this one... Of her colossal disappointment.

Best of all was that my fursona was going to follow alongside me in my transition; I had so much fun sketching out all the different ways I could express my femininity through her. I had drawn several distinctly trans related works throughout my life, but all of them were layered thickly through subtext and, more often than not, just mistaken for other women I knew, or daydreams of some kind. But Persephone was me. I was done hiding, done repressing, done being afraid.

June 27th 2025:

I went out today, dressed skimpy, bimboley, femininely... The cracks are becoming gouges in the surface of a shell I've long discussed in the many years of this journal. Little did I know, the shell was of an egg. Not a bulwarking turtle shell, that I used to suppose... Merely an egg. You see, I've maintained a frail hold on masculinity for this long for mundane reasons, I've come to understand. I've been rigid. Stuck in a dysphoria of my own making. I don't need to fear the medical jargon, the bureaucracy, the politics... I don't know why my feet have always been so cold about something that I've clearly celebrated and been euphoric about my whole life. But I hope that with my therapist's guidance, I can get a nudge in the right direction. It's been a long life, I've worn a million masks. I'm tired of the games. I'm tired of the bravado. The first time Erik came over to the Studio, I sunk into this feeling, that I was free. And the longer this relationship goes on, with each time we hang out, each discussion... I understand. I get more and more feminine in my nature. It's all been going along like this until tonight... I just had to confess. I sent an absolutely monstrous amount of texts to Erik, deliberating my long life inside the shell, the many reasons I had stayed in the closet. He mentioned having a self-care day together where we put aside gender, preconceived notions... Almost like cleaning the slate. Maybe I'll face the beginning of my own sequel. I pondered something else that Erik texted me, and did something I haven't done in years. He said to just explore however I want, with no preconceptions of either gender, with no pressure to pick. The words I pondered the most, were, "Take it for a test ride". So I shaved my entire body. I put on mascara after, and when I saw myself in the mirror, all shaved and pretty, I cried to myself for a little while. Yet I was smiling in pain, for the decades, upon decades of repression, come to an end.
