Make your favorite film sound as boring as possible without giving away the title: A self-obsessed white woman complains to everyone she meets about a doctor’s appointment for 90 minutes straight.

Two full weeks in Vancouver. Certainly a shift from living in a town of 13,000. Amazing food everywhere. There's a trans swim. My professor has her own biopic. What the hell have I gotten myself into?

I first saw The Silence of the Lambs at 15, a year before my egg cracked. I didn't know what a trans person was. I remember being so bewildered by *that shot*, so confused. Tonight, I saw the film again, a decade later. I had 2 thoughts when the shot arrived: "I recognize this." "You're beautiful."

My spouse (who is, like me, quite trans) works at a local print shop. Today they had to print and bind several copies of a detransitioner's self-made book, which included hundreds of pages of narrative about why being yourself can never make you happy, and only God's law will bring you peace.

As of today, it is officially official: I will be attending the University of British Columbia this fall as a graduate student in the Creative Writing Masters of Fine Arts program. I did not expect to get my number one choice. And I did. Time to get to work.

Quite accidentally, my last six posts have all been quote-posting Bibbs doing little prompts about movies and Star Trek. I am it seems incapable of engaging with anything else here, and/or have nothing of substance to contribute.

"If you were in charge of Star Trek what would you do?" Everything Bibbs said. Also: Step 1: Hire Witney Seibold to write. Step 2: Hire Brennan Lee Mulligan to create. Step 3: Profit. Seibold would spearhead an ideas-not-spectacle-based series, and Mulligan would get folks to actually watch.

It’s #TransDayOfVisibility, apparently. Good morning. I am trans. My wife is trans. So is at least one other member of my immediate family. Almost all my friends are trans. We are terrified of what the world is trying to do to us. All we want is a good life. Not sure what else there is to say.

Learning that Zimmer is doing the HP score really bums me out. His work on The Lion King, The Dark Knight and Interstellar are all very important to me. But now he goes and works on the “fund anti-trans legislation show.” Can’t anyone we admire just, y’know, stay decent?

Personally, as someone who likes DUNE MESSIAH much more than DUNE, I had hoped they would/am psyched that they are calling it PART THREE instead, to explicitly denote that this is the actual resolution of Paul's story (as a fascist tyrant brought low by the drinking of his own kool-aid).

My 2 cents re: Oscars 98: OBAA absolutely did not deserve Picture. Coogler deserved Directing. The Secret Agent deserved International Feature. Delroy Lindo fucking deserved Supporting Actor. They got Cinematography, Lead Actor and Original Screenplay right. Overall: disappointed yet again.

ALL MONSTERS ATTACK easily sits in my top 5 Godzilla films. It has more to say than most its peers about Godzilla's function as a Japanese pop culture icon. Also, it takes cool fights from films that heavily feature redface and puts them in a film with zero redface! Also also: Talking Minilla!!
A still from ALL MONSTERS ATTACK (1969), featuring our child protagonist and his buddy Minilla.

Please fund Tsai Ming-Liang, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and/or Roy Andersson's DIVINE COMEDY. Get Ryusuke Hamaguchi and/or Gregg Araki on John Okada's NO-NO BOY. Barry Jenkins and/or Janicza Bravo would do James Baldwin's entire canon justice. Louise Weard (or me!): Soula Emmanuel's WILD GEESE.

How do we think we will look back on Ron Howard's career in decades to come: will it matter that he acted in and/or directed several film/tv classics, and was by all accounts a very nice guy, when he also directly platformed, and indirectly caused the ascension of, one of the more malevolent humans?
