BlueGlow @blueglow.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Thanks for this. I shared with my daughter (teenager, ASD diagnosed a year or two ago), and it sparked a useful conversation. So you did help at least one member of the next generation by sharing! 010
BlueGlow @blueglow.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Lloyd Alexander? The Chronicles of Prydain is his famous series and it's very good, but I think she might love the Vesper Holly books (start with the Illyrian Adventure). Historical sans romance. Not especially science fictiony, but if she likes them then maybe she'll give Prydain a try. 010
BlueGlow @blueglow.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I basically peer-pressured a couple of moms into letting their kids go to the middle school dance. Partly so mine had friends there, but mostly so they all learned what a school dance was like. It was from about 7-9pm. Kids were not allowed to leave the building until a parent signed them out. 021
BlueGlow @blueglow.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Arjun was named after his uncle, which is meaningful to him and his family. You can't take his name away without hurting him, his family, and their culture. Rylan's mom chose her name with love, and whispers it to her every night when she goes to sleep. You can't replace that with a serial number. 010
BlueGlow @blueglow.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Would you make the school stop calling those kids by their names? And if so, why? What problem would that solve? 100
BlueGlow @blueglow.bsky.social · 24/09/2026As an American, I have a SSN, for finances, passport, etc. So do my kids. But when the teachers call attendance at school, they don't use SSNs. They use names, and so Rylan learns that she's sitting next to Arjun, and she can remember his name at the playground even after hearing it only once. 100

BlueGlow @blueglow.bsky.social · 13/09/2026I am so sorry. I have an esophagus/swallowing issue, and I panic a little bit every time I'm eating and my throat signals that something isn't working right. I can't imagine being constantly on the verge of that just from breathing. Wishing you well with this surgery! 010
BlueGlow @blueglow.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Note that online reviews for Interior Define were very mixed-- as far as I could tell, the company had gone through a bad patch and gotten lots of old negative reviews, but those issues had been fully resolved. I was looking for something very specific, so I took the risk, and it was great. 010

BlueGlow @blueglow.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I felt a lot more of a shared bond in the first weeks of covid, when I was sewing masks to send to distant friends and family, then during the rabid jingoism of the 9/11 aftermath, personally. 000

BlueGlow @blueglow.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Assuming this is a private preschool that hosts more than a handful of kids, seems like the school could pick up a couple pairs of used rainboots and sandals to use as emergency loaners, instead of having every parent store a personal pair of shoes at the school. 010
BlueGlow @blueglow.bsky.social · 31/08/2026Also: Colonoscopies are preventative. They don't just detect cancer, they can catch and remove pre-cancerous polyps! Before you turn down a colonoscopy, think about the people who would support you through cancer and chemo and surgery, and ask whether you owe it to them to head all that off now. 010

I already feel like a difficult parent, just for saying, hey, he had an IEP at former school, what do we need to do and how quickly can it happen. I know it's a lot of work for everyone, but the alternative is a kid who doesn't get to learn! 090

BlueGlow @blueglow.bsky.social · 27/07/2026My guess, if you're looking at the same empty shelves as I am, is that those had personal family photos or similar that they took down before listing, for privacy. Just a guess, based on how my parents and my in-laws arranged their various home bookshelves, and on helping them prep for selling. 170

BlueGlow @blueglow.bsky.social · 20/07/2026Dealing with Dragons would be perfect, if you don't mind the narrator's voice. (My kid didn't, but I sure did.) The Rick Riordan Presents books have been uniformly excellent, in my experience. Wings of Fire would be great for the older two, but I would not play for a 4.5 yr old. 021
BlueGlow @blueglow.bsky.social · 19/07/2026Parenting is an endless succession of "my bad, I guess I needed to tell you not to do that". Some personal favorites: Don't key my car. Don't stick beans up your nose. Don't let your friends cut your hair. 010
BlueGlow @blueglow.bsky.social · 18/07/2026I think you're right that people should have a choice, and that both home care and assisted living should be improved so it's a choice between two good options instead of the grim trade-offs we often get right now. 000
BlueGlow @blueglow.bsky.social · 18/07/2026I was thinking about my own family. My grandmother insisted on staying in her home for longer than was really safe. She actually did better once we finally got her into assisted living-- she made friends, plus and the staff and facility did a better job of accommodating her needs than home care had. 100
