i just dont get why? like. its canon...you can't deny what happened to him is abuse...yet people act like it didn't happen or weirdly minimize it? no one is saying you can't have fun with ships or do fluff, but the refusale of some people to engage in that part of the canon seems deliberate

I actually think reading first hand accounts of historical events has helped me cope with the modern day reality. The problems of today aren’t lessened by looking back, but it helps to understand other generations also faced their own unique struggles and atrocities and found ways to persevere

I definitely think that’s part of it, 9/11 kind of happened either before or right at the point where graphic images/videos were increasingly posted online. American kids just didn’t see that sort of thing regularly, so it sticks out more in their mind seeing people die right in front of their eyes

I think that’s just natural. As a student of history you understand it from a more objective angle, but it’s also sobering to hear the suffering of innocent people no matter what, and you can hold both of those in your mind when looking back on it
