In the way that terrifier is a slasher movie for the sake of having as much fun as possible with designing its gore and playing with its trope, the RE movie feels like its going "I wanna make the coolest survival horror movie ever!" and kinda slammed a bunch of really well done tropes together.

The resident evil movie is to me kinda the terrifier of survival horror. Its just doing survival horror for the sake of it. And its really well done! I had a blast with the movie, its spiritually as RE as you can get without Leon showing up on screen. I just wish it did a little more thematically.

All THAT is to say that, Mizus identity seems to be more of something of a gendered apathy. Someone who could really go either way or something else and doesnt really care as long as it lets them navigate the world meaningfully. The show is absolutely trying to show how people are forced into roles

Even IF in the story Mizu only presents as a man "to survive" (something plenty of trans people actually do quite frequently lmao) the story is obviously discussing queer aspects to gender and identity!!! I finally started watching Blue Eye Samurai, and I *do* really think Mizu is queercoded. Its literally a story where the main protagonist and several of the supporting cast are grappling deeply with gendered expectations and what THEY are.

Something I notice a lot when it comes to "this character is trans!" discourse is that people *require* the transness to be completely literal, or its simply not to be taken seriously at all. When that completely ignores, when a story is better served by just, having the audience connect the dots.

hot take but i genuinely enjoy wiping and struggling with fights in ffxiv. Like, watching a party struggle and scramble to due mechanics slowly get better as the duty goes on is entertaining! Its fun when there is some variety and its not just cookie cutter "Get this over asap for my daily"

you know a game is interesting when half the reaction to mina the hollower is "this game is irritating and too punishing" and the other half is going "this is my GOTY so far" To be clear I'm more on the latter side of the spectrum but I definitely can understand why some people feel the former.
