Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 23/08/2026Yesterday we visited the Giant’s Causeway in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It was formed by a volcanic eruption 50 to 60 million years ago and has over 40,000 basalt columns. It’s now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 000
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 23/08/2026The ruins of Dunluce Castle, in Bushmill, Northern Ireland. It dates back to the 13th century. It was used as the setting for Pyke Castle in Game of Thrones. 000
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 22/08/2026Belfast is a beautiful city. We spent it last night with the best people ever — friends we have known for 40 years! 010
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 21/08/2026The Cliffs of Moher on the west coast of Ireland in County Clare. 000
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 21/08/2026At Dunguaire Castle. Built in 1520, it sits on the shore of Galway Bay. 000
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Big Baby Bob was allowed to have some Skelligs chocolate because he behaved himself. 000
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 19/08/2026We went to Bunratty Castle & Folk Park, a medieval stronghold originally built in 1425 in Clare on the west coast of Ireland. It was refurbished and has been open since 1962. It’s a popular site and was packed with lots of families today. 010
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 18/08/2026A few photos from our tour of the Ring of Kerry, with the Skellig Islands in the background. Skellig Michael, the larger of the two islands, is famous as an early monastery that is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. 001
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 17/08/2026Muckross House is in Killarney National Park in County Kerry. It was the first National Park in the Irish Free State, now the Republic of Ireland. The big attraction for us were the gardens and Muckross Lake. It is a beautiful place. 000
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 17/08/2026Muckross Abbey in Killarney National Park was a Franciscan friary founded in the 15th century. The monks of Muckross Abbey were driven out in the 1650s by Oliver Cromwell’s forces. The giant yew tree in the center of the courtyard might be as old as the friary. 000
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 16/08/2026I did not behave myself at Blarney Castle and was justifiably punished. 010
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 16/08/2026At Blarney Castle. We did not kiss the Blarney Stone, since we weren’t looking for the gift of gab. 000
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 15/08/2026My brother would have turned 67 today. Happy birthday, Rick! Love you and miss you. 020
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 14/08/2026We went to the Guinness Storehouse today. One of us had a blast. :-) The experience was fantastic. I highly recommend it if you’re in Dublin. 020
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 13/08/2026We had a lovely tour today of the Books of Kells experience at the Old Library at Trinity College. Although we could see only two pages of the original, the exhibition was breathtakingly beautiful. 010
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 12/08/2026Our first day of our first trip to Dublin. We went on a Literary Walking Tour of the City. We started at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and learned about the literary history of Jonathan Swift, Seamus Heaney, Samuel Beckett, James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, W.B. Yeats, & all the greats. People here are friendly. 020
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 02/07/2026On this date in 1983, Brenda and I were married at Helen Hills Hills Chapel in Northampton, Massachusetts. The ceremony was all of 15 minutes. Also, we didn't have much money at the time, and our check to the Justice of the Peace bounced. But, hey, we're still married. Happy 43rd anniversary, honey! 120
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 21/06/2026Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there, including my Dad. 000
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 25/05/2026Today we pay tribute to our veterans, such as my Dad, Walt Thomas, who served 35 years in the U.S. Navy. Thank you, veterans, for all you do. 000
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 27/04/2026Welcome the new edition to our family, Ridley. He is an 8- or 9-year-old beagle, a rescue from Mississippi. He was a hunting dog who treed opossums, armadillos, and raccoons. His owner abandoned him, and he was picked up by Northbound Rescue. He's a smart dog and we love him. 140
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 24/12/2025Brenda and me, Christmas 1983. Yes, it's time once again for my annual Christmas photo, AKA, "Why, I Love Holidays So Much" or "My New Year's Resolution: Keep Smoking." Christmas at Brenda's family's house in Athol. The best thing about this Christmas occasion? At least I had enough cigarettes. 020
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 21/12/2025This is a picture of my Mom at our house in Haverhill in 2012. She always enjoyed Christmas at home with my brother and me. Peace to all and happy holidays! 010
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 27/10/2025Provincetown in 50 degree fall weather is perfect. Lovely time walking around town tonight with Brenda. 020
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 27/10/2025A beautiful brisk, fall day for a walk with my wife around Clapp’s Pond in Provincetown 010
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 05/09/2025Lake Louise in Banff National Park is a beautiful place, but a crowded tourist area. With limited parking available, you really have to get here by 8:00 AM to find a spot. We ended up taking a bus tour for the day, which allowed us to visit a number of sites at the park. Lake Louise is stunning. 1834
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 27/08/2025My favorite lake in the Canadian Rockies is beautiful Moraine Lake, located in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, Banff National Park. The lake is fed by glaciers, which are responsible for the rock flour, sediment from the glaciers that is suspended in the water and reflects the sunlight. 061
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 26/08/2025The most magical spot we visited in the Canadian Rockies was Spirit Island on Maligne Lake in Jasper. The island is sacred and protected land of the Stoney Nakoda, First Nations people. The water in Maligne Lake is turquoise. It gets its color from the mineral sediment in the glacial meltwater. 010
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 23/08/2025We went on a tour of the Columbia Icefield in Jasper National Park. The icefield includes the Athabasca Glacier, which we toured on the Ice Explorer, a 6-wheel off-road bus. After the tour of the glacier, we walked the Skywalk, a glass-bottomed platform about 1,000 feet above the Sunwapta Valley. 010
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 21/08/2025Athabasca Falls is a waterfall in Jasper National Park on the upper Athabasca River, in Alberta, Canada, and just west of the Icefields Parkway. We were able to visit it last Sunday on our trip through the beautiful Canadian Rockies. 010
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 16/08/2025We stopped at the Othello Tunnels in Hope, BC. In 1914, the tunnels - and bridges - were built by hand through solid granite to make way for a railway, now defunct. It’s beautiful country out here. Lots of firs and pines and spruces, water the color of turquoise, and lots of granite. 030
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 15/08/2025Yesterday we walked around Stanley Park. It was a beautiful day for a walk. We walked the Seawall, saw the totem poles (which are replicas because of deterioration but spectacular to view), and beautiful trees — red cedars, firs, and spruces — some over 600 years old. 020
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 14/08/2025Yesterday, we visited the Sun Yat-Sen Chinese Garden in Vancouver. It’s a Ming Dynasty-style garden, designed within a walled residence as a peaceful, tranquil space to sit, relax, and enjoy nature. Then we went into Chinatown and had Chinese BBQ. 030
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 14/08/2025We made it to Vancouver, and spent our first full day here going to the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Treetops Tour. The bridge sways a lot as you walk across it. Brenda was a wee bit anxious (terrified?) as she crossed it. Despite that, she even enjoyed herself for the most part. It was a fun day. 010
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 01/08/2025Hanging out at the Newport Jazz Festival with family and friends. It’s cool and not raining! 030
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 01/07/2025At Fenway Park with Brenda. Red Sox up 7-0 after one inning. It’s a miracle! 020
Bob Thomas @bltboston.bsky.social · 24/05/2025This weekend Chelsea is celebrating the Battle of Chelsea Creek, which happened 250 years ago. I love this quote from The Boston Globe: "’We have a right to be in this land, and that's the beauty of the Battle of Chelsea Creek,’said Lourdes Alvarez, a native of Uruguay who is a manager for Chelsea.” 000
