HE IS STILL A VAMPIRE SPAWN, idk what is so hard about it to understand????? In a novel, a named character doesn't get "custom stats." but a nature. And Astarion's nature is "vampire spawn" omg. Supernatural strength is part of what he is, that's inherent to being a VAMPIRE, spawn or not.

This is why i always laugh at ppl arguing the spawn ending leaves him weak & dependent on tav. Lmao, sure. A vampire spawn who has 16 str & other high stats as shown above, can spiderclimb once the tadpole's gone & he's well-fed post game + Has vampiric regeneration, thus heals super fast on his own

Astarion has base *spawn* stats, bc he is a VAMPIRE SPAWN in the Forgotten Realms, set in 5e around the fifteenth century. Yes exactly, those are the standard vampire spawn stats, from the monster manual (or here: dnd beyond) that every vampire spawn has in the setting, thus also astarion. Hells, even Yousen would be stronk, given that 10 is the average stat for humanoids. It is a creature trait, plain and simple.

Well he is a vampire spawn first actually since in dnd/forgotten realms race traits trump class, thus, given the stats of 16 str, he is all BUT weak. Besides since the book is set before the game, there is no tadpole affecting/nerfing his stats, so he actually should have been able to do that :)

Tldr: Dates on his tombstone were always correct but #bg3 fandom drew wrong assumption from it, thus Wizards Of The Coast published a clarification in #Astarion's sourcebook months ago. But FR wiki, the place where ppl look for canon info FIRST, has still not corrected it, thus this long post 😡

... which already renders Astarion's death date being 1268 DR impossible even w/o anything else: Cazador was still a spawn at that time, under Vellioth. He only became the new vampire lord when he slaughtered Vellioth in 1276 DR, so apparently 8 yrs AFTER turning astarion? Sure🤣#bg3 #astarion

The confusion regarding Astarion's age stems from his gravestone displaying the date 268 w/ the DR suffix, when it's ACTUALLY NR, bc 268 NR converts to 1300 DR (268 + 1032). This places his death exactly 192 yrs before the game's setting (1492 DR). Thus dates displayed = correct + #bg3 #astarion

Anyway back to the DR/NR conundrum: DR = most commonly date format in all of Faerun, except for... Waterdeep. They use NR as date format there. Year 0 NR marks the year Ahghairon became the first Lord of WD (1032 DR) Therefore,to convert NR to DR, u add 1,032 yrs (NR + 1032 = DR) #bg3 #astarion

(It also contradicts his dialogue stating he was a spawn for NEARLY 200 yrs with *nearly* being the deciding word used here. He doesn't say FOR 200 yrs, not for OVER 200 yrs, nope. For NEARLY 200 yrs. Aka 192 yrs. NEARLY is the important word here.)

The date of 229-268 on the tombstone is actually correct, but it is date FORMAT/system that got jumbled by a dev. It should have read "NR" not "DR." DR= Most commonly used date format in Faerun/Forgotten Realms. See the correctly to DR converted, canon astarion dates below. #bg3 #astarion

The previous date of 1268 DR was derived from Astarion's gravestone ingame, which read "229 DR - 268 DR." Well, Astarion is obviously not over 1,200 years old 😂 Thus fans thought it was a dev error and the 1 somehow omitted from the "268" DR, thus 1268 DR. But nope, wrooooong. #bg3 #astarion
