Remnants of the 1 drop rule: I'm in agreement with this take and acknowledge many racially Black Boriquas, Dominicans, non hispanic Caribbeans, and continental Africans were called N words by society and we, ADOS, allowed it to function as a defacto initiation into the American Black Ethnicity.

I get wanting to expose your kids to different things in life especially if the Black communities you are in close proximity to are impoverished however this is not the answer. We are doing a disservice to our kids when we preach pro Blackness but our actions are anything but.

This is why we need a culturally relevant canon. We could have avoided this confusion with mandated reading of Zora Neale Hurston, Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, Gloria Naylor, and Gayl Jones to name a few.
