I’ve been a journalist for 27 years. I’ve reported major stories about mass surveillance, torture, war, the military-industrial complex, police black sites, etc. But this is the most important story I’ve ever had the horror/honor to work on. For it is a story about the current phase of a genocide.

Months into a supposed ceasefire in Gaza, doctors still have to smuggle in basic medical supplies—and treat new casualties of war.

Stories like this show the emptiness of Democrats’ “they should remove their masks” rhetoric. It’s a cancerous organization that they are afraid to cut out. Democrats are to brave politics what a carrot juice enema is to cancer treatment.

“We don’t want to talk to constituents in order to earn a place on the ballot” is some kind of take for sure. “Bring this mailer so it’s fast because we REALLY don’t want to talk” is a whole other idea.

This is a good lede, thank you! The museums I talked to/researched before didn’t have any information/guides on books as art objects, but having more good places to ask is helpful! Also, reading good artistic image descriptions helps me write better!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I really want to get this right. It’s 30 books, with about 20 images each. If I get it right the first time I won’t have to rewrite them all!

If this passes I can see it becoming more difficult to get a passport for this reason.

Some examples of spreads in these books. Photos by Rashaad Parker, writing by Quajay Donnell. You can read the full book about Luvon Sheppard on our website: static1.squarespace.com/static/655a0... or at inthismoment585.org

My honey-colored hand holding a small, 5x7 chapbook. The background is cozy with furniture, blankets, and the corner of my laptop. The book has a full spread image of artist Luvon Sheppard sitting in his studio.

The descriptions are closer to what you’d see in a museum than what you typically see for books. I’m having trouble finding examples and could use some guidance.

As an artist and the curator of this project, I know how much consideration went into image placement; how image placement impacts pacing and the readers’ understanding of the book. But audio books are not physical objects, and I’ve had feedback that page composition is distracting when listened to.

I make each description as vivid as possible, so the meaning of each image can be understood. Do I also need to include information about where the photo is on the page/image size??

Cross posting with the hope to reach folks who are knowledgeable about accessibility in art for visually impaired people! I’m writing image descriptions for In This Moment (book project on Black Rochestarians). I think of each chapbook as an art object.

Fascinated at how news coverage in #roc is reticent to mention how Joe Morelle’s son’s lobbying of Monroe County for AirBNB included sending MC the first draft of opt-out legislation, that they sat on for 200 days before pushing it through at the last minute.

I would not be at all surprised if this was a contributing factor. I would also not be at all surprised if she had been picked by some red pilled, thumb faced, potato who encouraged her to do this so that she could start a podcast/crypto scam.

The ability to recognize this as Nazi propaganda hinges on media literacy and a basic understanding of American history. Many Americans have neither of those skills. That is by design.

This month might be the first time I have to go to a food bank as an adult. And if not this month then probably next. I use my SNAP mostly to feed my dad because his SNAP isn’t enough to feed him. I don’t think I’ll be able to afford groceries for us both out of pocket. HOLD THE DAMN LINE.
