Yeah a lot of people collect all the games for a specific system but never play em. I always called myself a utilitarian collector cuz yes I would buy a sega Saturn and burning rangers just to play that game rather than emulate it, but I don’t buy other stuff I don’t think looks good.

New house new shelf for consoles. They are all hooked up, yes. Only the PlayStation / Switch are powered at all times, the rest can be turned off via surge protectors.

2d. Our site is doing more than just “displaying an api”. Rag’s put in a lot of work and so did I. Like yeah it’s obviously displaying an API but we have tons of info the API doesn’t explicitly tag.

2c. Everything is cross checked multiple times by contributors across various sources because plenty of them have inaccuracies. Serebiis CXD info is really flawed for example so when I crossed it with bulba I had to find a third source (yt videos and my own streams) to see what was right

2b. PokeAPI is really no different than a wiki like bulbapedia in my eyes. It’s just a community putting together information in an open source format so others can take it and display in a way they’d like. I contributed to it multiple times by hand writing out info.

2a. PokeAPI is basically just a compilation of .csv files people put together with information sourced from anywhere they can get it. Some is bulbapedia, some is serebii, most of the stuff is actually from Veekuns database until gen 7, when they switched to using Kaphotics leaks.

I want to be clear about two things regarding my site; 1. It is not vibe coded. My friend who helped is a full stack dev. Just finalizing the UI and features took us 4 months, we started in like February. 2. PokeAPI is not like constantly scraping serebii or bulbapedia or something.

I fly home tonight then am moving immediately after. Once my office is set up I’ll figure out what I want to say, how I want to say it, and clarify what I was trying to do while apologizing about what I feel like I did wrong upon reflection.

I had several people watch the video before it launched and literally no one red flagged my video as being offensive or rude to Joe, even a personal friend of his didn’t say anything. So yeah I’m caught off guard and a bit confused and defensive. I don’t think I’m being that weird or rude atm.

I’m still also in a partial state where I believe a lot of the noise is people only seeing the thumb and not having watched a majority of the vid, bandwaggoning onto me by spouting joes opinions of my videos as facts of what I was going for.

4. My video talks about these websites because those frustrations led directly to the design situation I set up on my page. I put a lot of thought into what goes where and what a player is mostly likely to search for / want to see.

3. Them doing that is frustrating for me when their websites are really the only websites I can find that info on. I understand these sites goals is generally to preserve as much info as they can, that’s totally fine. I appreciate that and think it’s good.

1. When I go to bulbapedia or serebii, 99% of the time, I want to know one of the things in my top landing boxes. Evolve method, location, capture info, moves, etc 2. Serebii and bulbapedia often put other information that is effectively just fun trivia / game database stuff high up on the page
