So it begins. Felt more inspired than usual so I started the thumbnail process. Many more pages to go but can't wait to start going all in.

Got to check out DC Power: Rise of the Power Company and I'll just say this: So good to see Josiah Power back and the storytelling being done to explain his absence! Great set of stories in this one shot, and it just makes me even more excited for Power Company: Recharged.

Got to read Weapon X-Men #1 early! If you ever wanted a team book with a roster full of "rebels without a cause"? This is it. The tagline couldn't be more appropriate: "They'll save the world... if they don't kill each other first."

The other ads from back then if anyone was curious how they teased Shuri becoming Black Panther in 2009. If you were reading Black Panther back then, you knew off rip there was ZERO chance it was anyone else BUT Shuri.

Ya'll remember this? Just me? Cool 😂 Context: From an ad in 2009 teasing the new Black Panther that ultimately ended up being Shuri. Monica Rambeau, Storm, and Shuri were also teased... but this was nasty work 🤣🤣🤣

I agree. It doesn't hit as hard fo sho, but I did appreciate that backstory for the characters. Now if you want more, I do recommend this spiritual follow up (if you haven't already)... Feral, my friend 👍🏿👍🏿

Yup, Citizen and Commander Steel typically went by just Steel. The original Steel (Hank Heywood Sr) did the same. Remember dude from Legends of Tomorrow? All of them are considered Steel.

Now one area where Luigi and Mr. Payback are different? Mr. Payback killed innocent people by accident when attacking these corrupt CEOs. Multiple people caught fatal strays as a result, and Punisher was almost willing to give him some slack if not for that. Luigi Mangione didn't kill one innocent.

071

Blerd Without Fear! @blerdwithoutfear.bsky.social · 11/12/2024

I don't agree with vigilante justice but I understand why it happens. No different than riots being the language of the unheard, violence in general is all that's left when talking, begging, pleading, protesting, and voting have failed you. Mr. Payback was a commentary on that.

Life often imitates art. Meet Mr. Payback from Garth Ennis' Punisher: Welcome Back, Frank series in 2000. A Regular Man™️who takes it to the corporations and CEOs of the world because abuse their wealth and power to hold down and harm the working class. Luigi Mangione is the real Life Mr. Payback

All-New Venom Issue 1 was fun. Goofy in some spots but not in a bad way. Almost like it knew the premise was absurd on its face and said screw it: Let's just have fun with it. Also fun to see Venom back on the street level, and having fun beating up the bad guys. Al Ewing is cooking again!

Sat on this for weeks and can finally say it... I feel like ThunderCats Apex #1 pulled an Arkham Knight... But did it SO MUCH BETTER. The issue as a whole? Fantastic. @edbrisson.bsky.social delivered a western tale that felt right at home on Third Earth. Apex is the man! Stay tuned for the video.

Blerd Without Fear! @blerdwithoutfear.bsky.social · 02/12/2024

Moral of the story: How people respond to Black characters picking up the mantle of an established white character isn't new. Rhodey is one of the first legacy characters in mainstream comics, and if he became Iron Man again? People would cry as if he hasn't been Iron Man several times before now.

0253

Blerd Without Fear! @blerdwithoutfear.bsky.social · 02/12/2024

Ultimately, he'd give up the armor and go back to being Regular Man. But I guess sales of Iron Man, even with Rhodey as Shell Head, were popular enough with minority readers they brought him back as Iron Man here or there multiple times and eventually made him War Machine roughly 130 issues later.

1170

Blerd Without Fear! @blerdwithoutfear.bsky.social · 02/12/2024

The part that was bad was how suddenly Rhodey's brain was incompatible with the armor, causing him headaches that made him act weird. It was all boiled down to imposter syndrome in later years but in the 80's he was an angry Black man stereotype due to being jealous of Tony and coveting the armor. 🤦🏿‍♂️

190

Blerd Without Fear! @blerdwithoutfear.bsky.social · 02/12/2024

Funny thing was how even though Tony just wanted an excuse to go drink, you could tell Denny was trying to get across the idea that who's in the suit didn't matter. Black or white, anyone can be Iron Man... But it was the later stuff that didn't age well...
