I remember when I was young that my folks had a 12.5% mortgage that they refinanced to 8.75%(!) The only reason I remember because they were so excited they told us kids, and it was a really big deal and we had a special dinner. 8.75%, a really big deal!

That shouldn't disqualify, but do you want to give a signal of "don't really care" when you're in a huge # of applicants? When you're starting out & have no body of work to stand on, how you choose to present yourself stands out When you DO have a body of work, that's when this no longer matters

I'm GenX w a GenZ kid He's interviewed for research internships; I've said that things such as wearing a nice shirt, tucking it in, shaking hands, using a prof's honorific- those are signals of respect & seriousness If you're more casual, that *can* be read as you're casual about the work...1/2
