Yesterday, a mom with two kids came to Blanchet House for help. We don’t offer a bill-payment program, but our peer support staff listened and connected her to Rose Haven’s monthly financial clinic. So many people need just a little help, but they’re navigating a confusing and very limited system.

At the end of the month, our line grows longer as money runs out. Our staff announces that we'll need to cut off the line. Guests who have already eaten step aside and wave others forward. People still show care for one another even though they are all struggling.

One Day, One Story: A 74-year-old man came to Blanchet House asking where to stay. He seemed to have cognitive challenges. Our team spent five hours helping him connect with a case manager. That’s where we left off. He was in good hands. It was a hopeful ending.

Emmett, an Eagle Scout, is building a labyrinth at Blanchet Farm to be used as a meditative tool for the men staying there. He held a fundraiser for the materials and built the labyrinth over three days with help from Barb Beck, friends, family, and residents of the farm.

A woman came to Blanchet struggling to get around because of an injury. We didn’t have a suitable walking aid, so we reached out to our friends at CHAT. They came through with a wheeled walker! CHAT is a program of Portland Fire & Rescue that responds to low-acuity medical needs.
