Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 12/07/2024Yeah, some state statutes can be more restrictive than Federal rules. 000
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 12/07/2024It's not illegal to own and operate a still. Steam distillation, say, to collect essential oils of plants, is entirely legal. It's aonly illegal to operate a still if you are getting ethyl alcohol out the discharge port and don't have a distiller's license. 100
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 02/07/2024Yep. 1st Minn. paid a damned high price for it. They deserve to keep it. 0231
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 23/06/2024We have Hardee’s here. There is one about 5 mi from the house. 100
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 23/06/2024We have a little hibachi that Lodge Cast Iron calls its “Sportsmen’s Grill.” 010
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 23/06/2024As you should have. Was eating at the bar in a $$$$ restaurant once and saw a Big Businessman order 4 fingers of the 21 y/o Macallan single malt ON THE ROCKS. 000
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 07/06/2024Sorry to have intruded. I will delete the posts if you wish. 330
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 07/06/2024Is true. I have a *lot* of respect for the Jesuits. Among other things, the best commander I served under in 24 years in the Army had been Jesuit-educated. I do feel sometimes, though, that too many folks are a little too willing to pretend that the Jesuits are faultless. 130
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 07/06/2024You liked Master LI and Number Ten Ox!!! That trilogy is one of my favorite unknown fantasy classics. 030
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 07/06/2024Still, they aren't perfect. A Jesuit who taught classes on religion at Boston College High School was just arrested and charged with having sex with a child. 400
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 01/06/2024Yep. Dealt with stuff like that, too. For much of the last 16 years of my working life I was in part a subject-matter-expert on the safe transportation of hazardous materials, world-wide, via any mode of transport. Had an entire shelf in my office bookcase full of regs I had to follow. 010
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 01/06/2024Fortunately, I have never felt any desire to climb Everest. 040
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 01/06/2024In my last job we regularly shipped 200-gal tanks of RFNA. RFNA is REALLY scary. 120
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 01/06/2024I do too. But I also understand the thermodynamics of the nitrating reaction, and refuse to play with it without proper hardware and adequate safety measures. 020
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 25/05/2024 Oh, gods, Roger was/is one of my favorite authors. And don’t’ discount his shorter works. “A Rose For Ecclesiastes” is 61 years old, and it is STILL a gut-wrenching story to read. 060
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 18/05/2024Leyendecker also illustrated a collection of Irish myths. Here is his vision of Queen Maeve: 090
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 18/05/2024When I lived in Texas, we had school districts so small that their one high school played 7-man football. This is pretty much peak Texas. 010
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 17/05/2024She did "Makin' Whoopee" as a great duet with Tony Bennett on her "At Last," album 020
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 17/05/2024Supply vastly exceeding demand, prices falling like rocks! The Invisible Hand strikes again! 010
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 17/05/2024...in the Flagship lounge after spending the night on the floor of the terminal was lifesaving. (Yeah, they started handing out hotel vouchers at 1AM, while saying we needed to check back in at the gate at 7 AM. Fuck that shit. We were both soldiers. Wasn't the first time we'd slept on a floor.) 010
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 17/05/2024We had a 18-hour delay at Miami enroute to BA in early 2023. Our first bird mechanicaled, the original crew ran out of hours by the time they got stuff transferred to the replacement bird, and American had problems assembling a replacement crew. Being able to get a shower and breakfast... 110
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 17/05/2024Yeah. I'm just up the road from Mother Angelica's fancy basilica and all. Am not Catholic, (although all my mother's family are,) but have never been impressed by all the arguments about how the changes after Vatican II are all heretical. Shit changed after every other ecumenical council. 020
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 16/05/2024When I lived in Springfield, I'd either take the bus in to the Trailways station, or drive in, get off near the Prudential Center, and park in the garage at Dalton and Scotia. Either way, it was the T after that. 010
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 16/05/2024Last time I looked, Boston still had 3 one-way dead-end streets. Everyone local knows about them and pretends they are 2-way. They were normal 1-way streets until construction of the MassPike Extension ate their other ends. Natch, the City Council can't be arsed to formally make them 2-way again. 020
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 16/05/2024I can only raise my left eyebrow. But that actually *is* the result of a partial facial paralysis. I had a malignant tumor in my right parotid gland which was excised in June, 2023, and in that procedure it is difficult to avoid insult to the facial nerve. 000
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 16/05/2024Reminds me of the following: User: "No, I can't see my cursor." Help Desk: "Why not?" User: "Everything is dark." Help Desk: "Everything is dark?" User: "Yes. The power in the building is out." 020
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 16/05/2024They will do that. I recommend cultivating them with a flamethrower. 000
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 16/05/2024You ARE aware that every Charger they did a jump with for the tv series had to be written off, aren't you? 000
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 16/05/2024Well, the Catholic Church also said beaver was a fish as far as food for Lent goes. Still like the idea the guy gets to open his restaurant. 000
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 15/05/2024After seeing some of the pinsas they make in Rome, I’d probably try any pizza the locals invented and like. That one sounds interesting. 000
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 14/05/2024How I feel about Calc 3 and Diffy Q’s. Which I never needed doing industrial and transportation safety. 010
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 14/05/2024We don’t have a store like that here, so I order from La Quercia in Iowa, a specialty packing house that does a lot European-style cured meats. Yes, Amatriciana, a’lla Gricia, and Roman-style carbonara all get made here. 130
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 13/05/2024I have a source for domestic guanciale, if you want to make certain pastas from the area around Rome. 120
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 13/05/2024Proving that magic is the only possible cause for whatever injury plaintiff is complaining about is going to be a very hard row to hoe. 000
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 12/05/2024Folks here in North Alabama have no taste. Pretty nearly EVERY Chinese joint in the county is rated at more than 4 points on a 5 point scale. Including a couple of places where I'll never even enter the doors again. 010
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 12/05/2024One doesn't get nominated for four Academy Awards if one isn't good. And he DID win a Tony for Best Actor for Darkness at Noon on Broadway. 010
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 12/05/2024Historically, here in the US, when a third party starts gaining seats in Congress, that means one of the existing parties is dying. 110
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 12/05/2024I feel for you. I'm in Huntsville, so we're in the TVA catchment area. Lot fewer problems here. Alabama Power is a great example of why the states should never allow any company to become a de facto monopoly. 030
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 12/05/2024I *want* the bones. They add flavor. I've a recipe for a French chicken stew which uses lots of onion, carrots, and celery, for which I always buy boneless, skin-on chicken thighs. Fishing the bones out after the stew simmers all day is easy. 020
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 12/05/2024I think Ms. Necheles forgot the dictum “Never ask a witness a question to which you do not already know the answer.” Probably because she was trying to be responsive to her client’s demands to be more aggressive in questioning witnesses. 100
Blake Kirk @blakekirk.bsky.social · 12/05/2024Probably not. I think the VLS tubes in subs are designed to fit Tomahawks, and only Tomahawks. Not the square canisters used in the Mk41 VLS on surface vessels. Submarine ASROCS launch from the torpedo tubes. 060
