Goose Journey, 2023 Monotype on paper #art #artsky @bsky.art #printmaking #monotype #monoprint #goose

A monotype print rendered with quick, rough brush strokes of ink. In a rectangular section of the paper a house sits atop a pond shore. In the pond two geese are mating. A larger rectangular section is layered over; geese flying in a triangle formation, and the words “fly together then fuck.”

Coming soon to a market near you! If you’re near west Michigan that is… Some lino-carved (kinda queer) objects on denim #linocut #patches #queerartist

Blue denim cut into different sized rectangles, each printed with a different lino carved object; haircutting shears, nail clippers, and hammers, printed in white ink.

Small rectangular pieces of denim arranged along Blake’s outstretched forearm. Each piece is printed with a lino carving of an old school projector adaptor (think VGA cable) with “mini gender changer” printed across the front in white ink.

Fishing collage I made for my dad this past christmas. #art @bsky.art #collage #fishing #alttext

A symmetrical collage composition on sage green paper. On the left is an image of a man lounging back and fishing on a tranquil dock. An identical image sits on the right, the only difference being the man and his fishing tackle have disappeared. In the center of the composition sits a grey and silver fish-shaped fishing lure. Framing, and sometimes overlapping, the rectangular photographs are pieces of other fishing lures in a myriad of colors and glittery finishes. One image includes the name of the lure: “Squirmin’ Lizard.”

Proofing day! Gods why do I torture myself by carving text…

A piece of newsprint reads “Blake Alexander Matthews” in all caps serif font printed in blue ink. The chatter lines around the letters show that this is a linocut print. The three blocks for each name sit beside the paper as well as my v gauge carving tool, and some bits of lino.

Big Chop, 2023 Linocut on paper 8.5 x 11” Cutting my own hair has become a special ritual for me, and a big part of my queer identity, so I wanted to make a print about it! I also have editions of these on white and beige paper. #art @bsky.art #linocut #printmaking #queerartist

A linocut print of a black pair of scissors layered over a bathroom scene in magenta ink. The viewer is looking down over a bathroom sink with a mirror on the wall. Four shapes resembling pieces of hair, drift down in front of the viewer’s gaze, being cut by the scissors. The chatter left behind from carving emphasizes the downward angle of the composition.

Why are you half-assing your alt text? Especially as an artist? I love having the opportunity to describe what’s going on in my work visually, especially if it means more people can access it!
