With the PM talking about his love of poetry, I think more of us politicians should follow his lead. For years I've collected poems (by others not me!) which speak to political life in some way. I think I'll share them. Starting with this one which feels appropriate after Andy Burnham's speech.

Richard Tice wasn't happy being reminded that Farage wanted to abandon manufacturing workers.

Here’s Swinney’s “austerity” in graph below. The big divide in modern politics is between those who are interested in the hard work of fixing real problems & those who want to create an unreality to disguise their true intentions. Swinney is choosing the path of bullshit here.

I wouldn’t encourage comparisons of my approach to cryptocurrency to that of Trump if I was Farage. Trump’s crypto grift has opened the door to unimaginable levels of corruption. Farage might want US style politics over here, most of us shudder at the thought.

A movie that takes place where you’re from.* *Rob Roy (1911). Arguably the first ever Scottish movie, was made at a small studio in what is now Rouken Glen Park in Thornliebank.

Unexpected day in Commons in first Saturd sitting in decades - but what a difference to have a government that intervenes to save jobs, after watching the Tories and SNP sit on their hands for so many years.

Privilege to meet Save Ukraine ahead of my question to the Prime Minister today. Deeply moved hearing how Kseniia & her brother were rescued after being abducted by Putin. Was presented with a painted flag made by rescued children as part of their rehabilitation. Now pride of place on office wall.

Labour’s plan to give millions of workers a pay rise has just passed the House Commons. In one week, 3 million people will receive a £1,400 boost in the national living wage.
An image that reads: millions of workers are set for a pay boost worth £1400 a year

Tomorrow, like every other day, the SNP will claim that Labour are continuing Tory austerity. It's utter bollocks that is designed to give themselves an excuse for their own incompetence and inability to improve services despite being handed an extra £5bn. Don't let them away with it. 👇

After a morning spent door knocking, a perfect rest of the day in East Ren. Blubbed my way through an amazing production of The Little Mermaid put on by the amazing Superkids. Walk and bike ride in the Mearns countryside to see the new lambs. Delicious pizza from 800 Degrees in Giffnock for dinner.

Himars & GMLRS are manufactured in factories across 141 different US cities. Javelins are built across 16 states. Artillery shell production in Pennsylvania has trebled. Like all nationalists, his narrow worldview is utterly self-defeating. Supplying Ukraine is creating and sustaining many US jobs.

X is now a weapon for the authoritarian far-right. I left it weeks ago. Others have to make a judgement as to whether their continued presence legitimises a dangerous platform.

Huge demonstration outside proposed site of Chinese super embassy today. My message to the CCP: if you want to open a new embassy, throw open the door of Jimmy Lai’s prison cell, unfreeze the savings of British Hong Kongers and close the slave labour camps in Xinjaing.

Tomorrow I'll present to Parliament The Jimmy Lai Bill: a bill to guarantee consular assistance to British journalists detained or held hostage overseas. In an increasingly dangerous world, where authoritarian strongmen fear scrutiny, we must protect those seeking the uncorrupted truth.

Wee festive trip to see a bit of East Ren history: the wreckage of Rudolf Hess’ Messerschmitt 110 that came down outside of Eaglesham in 1941. Also enjoyed the bullet ridden tail fin of another downed plane. Nothing more festive than fighting nazis.

Visited Crookfur Nursery with Santa today. Some have suggested there was something strange going on as we were never in the same room together, but I pointed out that Father Christmas has such a different physique to me. Then off to Banco for Christmas lunch with team from my constituency office.

For when the SNP claim anything in the budget is down to their decisions rather than the extra £5bn of investment for Scotland in Labour's budget. This from the Scottish Fiscal Commission today:

I spoke to BBC Breakfast about the campaign to modernise paternity leave. Being a dad has changed, but the rules on paternity leave haven't. It's time to make it easier for fathers to be the good dads we want to be.

I spoke earlier in the assisted dying debate. This is a difficult choice because we’re dealing with two truths: the need to alleviate suffering and the need to protect vulnerable people. After talking to local people, legal experts, doctors & disabled people, I’m taking a precautionary approach.

1000 days on from the full scale invasion, Ukraine’s democracy still stands, Russia is humiliated, but the suffering & sacrifice of Ukrainians has been greater than it needed to be. Even without the USA, NATO’s GDP is ten times that of Putin’s Russia. Kyiv can win but we need to step up our support.
