"We do not have long to wait for it if we want to fight it while the sun yet hangs in the sky." She gestured toward the waning light. "I feel it unusual for a griffon to remain away from its nest for so long, especially as it struggles to return to it. What if it's hiding at it's nest and cannot

Belladonna peered at the bald hill, and then turned to the grove after his suggestion to make camp. Camp here made logical enough sense to her; close enough to see the nest, far enough away that they'd have a decent amount of warning should anything approach.

Considering all the racket he made whenever he walked, she wondered how he tracked anything. The noise alone would echo through a forest for miles, what with all the bottled machinations on his person. Though some were bait, sure, and she knew he could rest for a long while in the same place.

"That is why I suggested we track it before nightfall..." she turned to give him a calculating look. Perhaps she'd mumbled and he'd not heard her properly?

and apart from the rest of the forest, a dimple in the landscape. "Griffon's nest?" she pointed at the tree, and at a protrusion from one of the highest branches, although from their current angle it was hard to make out the shape of the protrusion, as it was eclipsed from their view by other,

A griffon would nest somewhere up high, whereas a dragon would nest inside of a cave, somewhere secluded but near the ground. Her blue eyes roved over the horizon, until a singular large tree jutted out from the forest some hundred feet away from them. This grove like a lone sentinel standing away

She shot off toward the narrow grove's exit, where another set of three claw strikes were visible near the highest point of the tree. If it was that high up, it was likely trying to push off the tree to gain more momentum and take to the skies.

Belladonna @bladesedge.bsky.social · 27/08/2026

"Griffon, or perhaps a young dragon." Belladonna answered, then walked to her sword and picked it up. Deft fingers slid a metal mechanism into a thin strip of metal along her belt and the sword locked into place at her hip. "If we move quickly, we may be able to find it before nightfall."

Belladonna @bladesedge.bsky.social · 27/08/2026

"Either wings or it's arboreal," she added, now looking up at the same time as him, and at the slashes, noting the three strikes on one side and only one on the opposite side. His continued motion drew her gaze and she looked down at him and his imitation of a bird's talons.

weird puppet like the ones they had in the cities. When he spoke, he demonstrated his experience, at least. When he pointed at the wide path, she shifted her stance to see as much of the grove and the path as she could at the same time, her hand on the pommel of her side-sword.

She had her sidesword at her belt, but her hand-and-a-half sword rested against the nearest tree. She'd only placed it there once she'd thoroughly checked the area; the last thing she wanted was to be caught without her weapon. Her gaze shifted to the more experienced monster hunter while she

the night prior should have left plenty for them to track. And still, she stood there, arms folded across her leather armor and the gouges in the trees hanging over her head by a good five feet. "Whatever made this, it was large. Smaller than a troll, perhaps. What do you think of it?"
