On some phones you won't be able to change operating system, I know Samsung devices often are very locked down and don't allow this.

I can only speak for grapheneos, I've not really had any issues with it. Banking apps work fine too, which are sometimes a problem on 3rd party or modified OSes.

You can look into Ubuntu touch if you want to leave android entirely but I don't know how reliable it will be. Most people go for degoogled android OSes: if you have a pixel phone check out GrapheneOS, else I've heard of LineageOS too. Their websites will have installation guides.

It's hard to compare search engines because they're all becoming worse due to AI slop results and SEO spam. But I've been using kagi and it does what I need

thing i love about firefox is that you can set up custom engine shortcuts browser-wide and it'll work like DDG bangs plus some UI fanciness. I have "!i ..." set for image search and "mc .." set for minecraft[.]wiki

i had a funny thing to say about developers that run a certain os but i ran out of space and wanted it in one post so here's this

windows devs will make apps only for windows and program them heavily with windows-exclusive apis that make it a monumental task to port to other platforms (looking at both paint .net and undertale mod tool)

mac devs will create simple QOL apps that require you to buy a pro license for, even though equivalent apps on other platforms are free

linux devs will have their app only available on a git repo with zero binaries and very little (if at all) build instructions or guidance

#MusicBrainzPicard 3 ALPHA is now available for download. Use with care - backup your files and please report any issues. Updates: Qt6, plugin system, configure columns and filters, cover art processing, OS support, save session, new tags and variables and MORE: blog.metabrainz.org/2026/01/27/p...

A mockup of a boxed version of Picard, but with a weird blue and pink glow. Text on top reads “version 3.ALPHA”

Misinfo: It’s browser based caching, pulled from the audit log (banned users API). It doesn’t hurt to ban the accounts, but they probably aren’t on your server. Here’s a screenshot of me testing this on a server in a cache cleared browser. The first time I ban, it uses IDs. The second time, names.

A screenshot of a test server showing how the ban system works in Discord. Specific details are in the post.

if you're willing to do a bit of setup nextcloud seems to have that. otherwise proton has one which should be a bit simpler though I'm not sure if it's completely free or open source.
