Its origin and provenance remain unknown, other than the fact that it was an anonymous donation following an expedition in 1934.

Nails are embedded in the ears, eyes, and the top of the skull—undoubtedly a symbolic feature. Additionally, the nails in the eyes hold two scraps of the same textile, each bearing painted sigils.

THE HORNED IDOL Miskatonic University Special Collections Catalogue No.MU-1908-23 Ref. ETH-LA-01 The object was originally catalogued as a crude wooden effigy of uncertain cultural origin. Its construction is entirely organic, consisting of roughly shaped branches bound together with natural fibre.
The figure is anthropomorphic in form, with elongated limbs, outstretched arms and a bifurcated structure resembling a pair of horns. Lengths of natural cord descend from either side of the head. These hanging fibres may have been intended to represent a beard, facial hair, or other appendages, although their original purpose cannot be established. Its construction suggests a ritual or ceremonial function, although this remains speculative.Between thewooden branches, a series of tooth-like elements have been arranged to form a crude crown or tiara above the head. Their appearance led to the original catalogue note identifying them as teeth, possibly of human origin, although their actual nature could not be conclusively established. The piece was transferred to Miskatonic University from the New Orleans Police Collection, although the circumstances surrounding its original seizure remain unclear. No associated documentation survives beyond the collection record.
