I used to work on international death penalty cases, including in the US. I've read thick policy reports, philosophical treaties & gruesome case studies that all highlight why it's ineffective, unjust & harmful. Save yourself the trouble & watch Kieslowski's A Short Film About Killing instead

Want an unscented moisturiser to use after shaving rather than splashing your face with a stinky alcohol concoction? That's clearly going trigger masculine insecurity, so you'll need...

Thanks to whoever recommended the 'What to carry, what to burn' podcast. The first episodes manage to turn most exploration/adventure stories on their head, simply having two women tell the true story of third, Ada Blackjack of the Iñupiat. www.whattocarrypod.com

Subtitles & international culture? Palme d'Or winning director? Slow & looong? Grapples with important themes without really getting to grips with them? Human story with a weird skew? Beautiful & at times dreamlike cinematography? Perfect festival movie & I also had a little nap.

A completely normal waxing gibbous moon, apparently. Any perceived redness that you might think portends, say, a rain of blood, speaks entirely of your own mental state...
The moon behind a haze of cloud above city lights and hills - it's definitely a bit red looking

Lovely family holiday mostly by rail in London, Utrecht and Berlin. Yes, sights, culture, history, food, etc, but the real highlights were 1) watching people ride bikes on traffic-calmed tree-lined streets & 2) my first barrier-free modern public transport system with fully integrated ticketing

Dutch & English share proto-German roots, so we can sometimes make out what a Dutch word means. Using the word in context can help. For example "The independent space warrior slapped Nigel in the kookwinkel"

Not usually a fan of adventure games but the storytelling in Firewatch is excellent, the setting in a National Forest near Yellowstone NP obviously works for me, and, also, in what other game do you get your own shit trowel?
still from the game Firewatch - chunky stylised graphics, a man's hands are visible with a radio handset in the left and a orange plastic trowel int the right. The is a roll of toilet paper on a tree trunk in the brown dirt in front of him
