WHO recommends lifelong co-trimoxazole prophylaxis for people with HIV in Africa. We randomized 537 adults with HIV and CD4 >350 to co-trimoxazole or placebo for 1 year (bit.ly/3TWlhQ8). ESBL-E.coli carriage increased faster with co-trimoxazole, but at 1 year there was no difference.
