First PhD paper by @bjoernfrankly.bsky.social is out now doi.org/10.1111/geb.... Björn quantified habitat selection across 48 terrestrial mammals: selection is shaped by environmental availability at different spatial scales, not species traits.

Very happy to announce that my paper on cross-species patterns in habitat selection of terrestrial mammals is finally published in Global Ecology & Biogeography! doi.org/10.1111/geb.... The highlights: - Strong road avoidance! - Lots of variation - Selection driven by environment rather than traits

Back to the BES in December for #BES2025!!! Poster this time round - I've spent the last years thinking about how we can predict space use for species we dont have *any* data for ...and it seems we might be getting somewhere 👀 See you in Edinburgh!!

2024 in Birds!! 2024 was my first full calendar year of #birding. My aim was to see 200 species in NL, which I didn't manage in the end. Still, it was a great motivation to explore new places and get moving. I've never been outdoors more and really felt the benefits of that during the year.

That’s a wrap! There’s nothing quite like seeing ecologists and practitioners come together, sparking new ideas and collaborations. We can’t wait to bring this energy to Edinburgh next year. Until then, stay connected and stay inspired!

Talk by @bjoernfrankly.bsky.social on fine scale habitat modelling for >1k individual tracked mammals from 27 countries. Most animals avoid roads (not elephants!). Avoid rugged landscapes (except mountain specialists) & high density human pop areas. Species traits do not explain differences #BES2024
