I don't necessarily like to create full "in-group" mentalities wrt queer spaces either, I think anybody can have a more critical appreciation for that stuff, I just don't like to turn a blind eye to the origin kinda being eye candy for guys in particular lol. but I am glad it can be recontexualized

more ignorant than from* someone and I didn't mean to be totally dismissive of people who give a more sex positive angle to sexuality in GitS but I think it's something where among my peers I think it's great but at large in pop culture it's worth responding to with more than just "based" lol

dismissive inclusion of those themes that are more ignorant than someone who has more lived experience w/ marginalization I still struggle to get a full grasp of how appropriate it feels to claim/reclaim but I feel in good company when everyone else around me is reading cyberpunk in a similar light

I do appreciate that there's a response where subcommunities are created where the main mode of appreciation for things like cyberpunk stem from the anticapitalism, transhumanist (as applied to like, bodily autonomy/freedom), sex positive themes as opposed to the sometimes more -

like you said, mostly straight, maybe less socially/politically aware individuals who create a work, and I don't 100% buy into pure "death of the author" opinions as they're often presented online with a lack of scrutiny, but I do think if a story has resonant queer themes (even if by accident)

Yeah! I think the best way I've dealt with it is just feeling more comfortable with allowing (esp. queer community) readings of a text to become the primary "version" of something in my head. I still often feel there's a worthwhile critical angle to hold against-

I also think people tend to be a bit too forgiving/glowing in response to their perception of cyberpunk in general, giving it a veneer of its better leftist half when in truth a good chunk of it is just Cool/Sexy Stuff indulgence (which is fine too!! but the posturing is a little funny to me)
