Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Shorebirds. Here's a Dunlin! Two were about. They do not often show up in Pittsburgh and caused quite the stir in the local birdwatching community. The birds didn't seem to mind people at all, in fact they were taking bait worms from people fishing nearby!

For #elegant #birds I think my top choice would be Cedar Waxwings! There was a group of around 70 of them all feasting on web worms that had spun cocoons all over the leaves of the locust trees!

#BirdOfTheDay #ODG Owl, Duck, or Goose Here's a Barred Owl I saw while hiking on a trail passing through an area recently exposed by a large tree falling. I had heard this one calling earlier so I had gone looking and found them!

Anyone have have that silly gif of a black cat leaning over looking incredulously at the camera? Cause here's a Bay-breasted warbler that did that to mine when it heard the shutter lmao #birds #warblers

get stared at, idiot Finally saw some Bobolinks! There we're so many! I love their song, very chaotic and jaunty, almost like a Gray Catbird mixed with an American Goldfinch. #birds

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #WingsOpenNotFlying, birds with wings open on the Floor/Water but not flying, the Alt theme is #Black&White, birds with black & white feathers. 🪶 Guess I got both with this immature Ring-billed Gull?

An immature ring-billed gull with their wings spread wide. Being a silly teenage gull they tend to flap about a lot without actually flying.

I guess today's #birdoftheday is #everydaybirds or #commonbirds? Not sure how or where the bird of the day theme originates... But I'll share my favorite common bird: The American Robin! They're supposedly harbingers of spring but they often stay put year-round, forming huge flocks in the winter.

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #OddCouples - two different birds in one capture Was heading out for a hawk and glanced up and saw an aerial dance between a red-tailed hawk and a crow. (of course it's not a nice dance—The crow was harrying the hawk to get it to leave!)

Backed by a gray sky a red-tailed hawk and an American Crow seemingly fly in a duet, their shapes mirror images. Of course the crow is much smaller than the hawk.

pittsburgh is so pretty, I don't think cities in flat land can compare tbh

A view facing west on Forbes Avenue in Pittsburgh. A bike lane jogs to the left at the bottom of the view and a sidewalk lies to the right. Ahead there is light vehicular traffic. The photo is taken vertically and the top two thirds of the frame is filled with towering clouds, blue sky, and the light of the setting sun. The Cathedral of learning and several other campus buildings are visible in the center of the frame.

A view from a brdige above Panther Hollow. The sky is a beautiful sunset with the sun behind a towering cloud and its rays spreading around it. In the bottom of the frame a yellow painted wrought iron bridge railing is visible.

A photo taken from the Schenley Overlook. The majority of the frame is taken up by a green, grassy hill. To the right lies the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. To the left is downtown. The tallest buildings in either are visible rising above the tree line. The sky looks like a painting of a clouded sunset.

The fountain at Highland Park. In the center of the image is a fountain with a single spray of water coming from the middle. Surrounding it is glassy, still, water that reflects the sky and trees. Behind the fountain lies a garden of flowers.
