Check out this beautiful black-headed gull! This bird was ringed, so I found out that it is 12+ years old; male; was ringed in Denmark. If you see a ringed bird yourself, take a photo & share it with your local ringing centre. #birds #bird #BirdOfTheDay #Seabirds

Eurasian treecreeper (Certhia familiarise) has probably some of the most remarkable claws among birds, which allow it to easily attach to trunks and branches. #birds #photography #nature #naturephotography #claws #bird #naturefacts

Reed Bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus). Fun fact: these species mostly nest on the ground, with the female building a nest and then both sexes incubating the eggs. #birds #photography #reedbunting #naturephotography #naturefacts #teamwork #birdphotography #birding #birdwatching

The most spectacular thing about terns is probably how they capture fish. Once they locate their prey, they rapidly swoop down, as you can see in the picture, and then dive into the water. #photography #birds #bird #wildlifephotography

When I see nightingales can't help but think of a poem by John Keats, the 'Ode to a Nightingale', which ends with: 'Was it a vision, or a waking dream? Fled is that music:—Do I wake or sleep?' #birds #photography #nightingale #poems
Common nightingale (Luscinia megarhynchos)

Female Eurasian chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs). Fun fact about them: the English name "chaffinch" derives from Old English ceaffinc and likely comes from the bird's habit of foraging through chaff on threshing floors. #photography #bird #birds #nature #naturefacts

Check out this Eurasian chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs). Fun fact about them: the scientific name Fringilla coelebs, given by Linnaeus in 1758, means "bachelor finch" after it was observed that Swedish winter flocks consisted mainly of males, the females having migrated farther south. #birds #bird

Check out this queen! 👑This is the first ant queen that I could photograph. You can even see a scar from the place where her wings used to be 🥺I believe it is likely a Lasius sp. queen 💚 #ants #queen #antqueen #photography #insects #ant #loveants

Beautiful Western yellow wagtail (Motacilla flava) & sunset 💛A fun fact about them is that they are monogamous & breed right until the end of August. #birds #bird #photography #yellow #sunset #sea

I was never able to take a photo of a Eurasian wren so close, but the bird was occupied with singing that it paid little attention to me 💚 #photography #birds #birdsinging #wren

Was so lucky to come across nests of the great-crested grebes. You can even see an egg in the picture 😍 And the picture was taken within the city limits; it is so great how many lovely birds we can meet in our cities! #birds #photography #grebes #eggs

News: birds & culture designs compete to become the Euro's new banknotes. We have the opportunity to vote for our favorite design here -> www.ecb.europa.eu/euro/banknot... Happily, birds 🪶are a recurring theme in several of the designs #Euro #EUR #birds #Europeanbirds

Check out this European robin (Erithacus rubecula) checking out its territory. Fun fact: these cute birds can get quite territorial and very defensive despite their innocent look. #birds #robin #orange #cutebirds

Wonderful Eurasian Oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus) ❤️They not only look cool but are also one of the longest-living birds; according to some records, they can live up to 46 years old. #birds #photography #nature #europe

Young White Wagtail (Motacilla alba). Fun fact about them is their near-constant tail wagging; the reasons for this behavior are poorly understood, but some studies suggest that it is a signal of vigilance during both feeding and preening (Randler 2006). #birds #photography

Beautiful but deadly birds 💀 Jackdaws are good at raiding the nests of other birds (e.g. Common Murre). Some even work in tandem to prey on seabird eggs, with one jackdaw luring incubating Atlantic Puffins out of their burrows so that a second individual can take the eggs. #birds

Check out this talkative common merganser/goosander 💚. A fun fact about them is that they are excellent fishers, so good that you may see gulls trailing flocks of foraging common mergansers. Occasionally, even a bald eagle will try to steal a fish from a merganser (source: allaboutbirds.org). #birds

Quite an interesting yoga pose of this Eurasian tree sparrow (Passer montanus) 😂 The Eurasian Tree Sparrow and House Sparrow are in a different family (Passeridae) from all the rest of the sparrows in North America (Passerellidae) and are not closely related. #birds

Common merganser & her little ones 🐣Fun fact about them is that this species commonly forms a crèche (form of childcare). It is an animal behaviour where offspring are cared for as a group by multiple females. It truly does take a village 💪 #birdwatching #addBirder

It is one of the many highland cattle that have been brought to the conservation area in Paljassaare, Tallinn. They help manage Paljassaare's meadows. Thanks to them, the area will develop into a semi-natural coastal meadow, making it an ideal habitat for many birds and insects. #highland

This little one is a white wagtail. Fun fact about them is that this species has an expansive breeding range that includes all of Europe and most of Asia. White Wagtail occurs across nearly the entire Eurasian landmass. #birds #wagtail #birdwatching

Last year, Tallinn city decided to stop frequent mowing. They made this decision to maintain biodiversity, cool the city during heatwaves, and absorb more rainwater. As a bonus, the city looks amazing. Check out a photo below, which was taken in the city centre :) #NoMow #Birds #addBirder

Was lucky to see this golden beauty 💛 Still in the process of identifying the exact species, so if you know, please share 🙏. So far, I believe it is a Vagrant Darter (Sympetrum vulgatum). 🔍Likely Vagrant Darter (Sympetrum vulgatum) 📍Estonia #insects #dragonfly #dragonflies #bugwatching
