"A March morning is only as drab as he who walks in it without a glance skyward, ear cocked for geese.” - Aldo Leopold, A Sand County Almanac and Sketches Here and There #birds #birding #nature #birdsky #photography

A photo of Canada Geese flying overhead. The perspective of the photo is from directly beneath a V-shaped group of flying geese, with a clear blue sky background.

It seems like I'm unable to message you on here for some reason, I'm not sure how Bluesky message restrictions work lol. Do you have this set intentionally? I can also ping on your store page if you'd prefer

A chipmunk atop a small overturned log. I'm already missing the weedy green plants and warm summer mornings! #mammals #nature #wildlife #photography #canon

A photograph of a chimpmunk standing on top of a small log. The background is a weedy patch of tall grass. The image is a summery yellow and green from the rising morning sun.

To watch a sunrise is to observe a scene played out for billions of years. A moment to reflect on your place in our world, your place in time. #nature #photography #sunrise #outdoors

A photo of a sunrise with thin overlapping layers of cloud cover, causing the sunlight to bleed through in deep orange, red and yellow. The upper layers of cloud are letting more bright light through, causing a highlighted segment of clouds to stand out and show more of a fluffy texture. The lower half of the image is a scene overlooking a calm lake, reflecting the colors above. A hazy dark green treeline shows in the distance at the center of the image. Fronds of a plant on the near shoreline loom in the immediate distance and are out of focus.

A squirrel popped up from the other side of a boardwalk I was hiking on and posed for a quick picture. #mammals #nature #wildlife #photography #canon

A squirrel standing at the very end of a wooden plank. The perspective of the image is low to the ground, and the planks to the left and right of the squirrel imply that it is part of a boardwalk. The background is tall fronds of marshy foliage.

What is #booksky reading this weekend? I'm working on these two! 1) The Grapes of Wrath - John Steinbeck 2) A Fire Upon the Deep - Vernor Vinge #reading #classiclit #classics #literature

The book cover for The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. This cover shows a family overlooking a vast landscape. A procession of vehicles makes its way up a winding road through the valley and towards a ridge of mountains.

The book cover for A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge. A stylized, futuristic spaceport sits at the center of the cover in the foreground, with a galactic cloud of stars across the background.

That one guy at the function immediately after you tell him not to double dip: #birds #birdsky #nature #wildlife #photography #canon

Two Canada Geese foraging at the bottom of a shallow body of water. They are upside down, their heads are fully submerged with their rears being the only part of their bodies sticking out of the water's surface.

I've been thinking about this poem by Langston Hughes recently and although it was published in 1931, it remains relevant as ever. #books #reading #booksky #poetry

A poem by Langston Hughes titled "Tired". It reads as the following:

"I am so tired of waiting,
Aren't you,
For the world to become good
And beautiful and kind?
Let us take a knife
And cut the world in two --
And see what worms are eating
At the rind."

Sandhill cranes are easily one of my favorite birds. Beautiful in color and form, their aesthetic appearance is contrasted by their cacophonous bugle call. A chorus of these birds singing in the distance invokes a sense of prehistory. #birds #wildlife #nature #photography #canon

Lately I have been making the effort to wake up early and go watch the sunrise. For a moment the morning slows, and my place in the world is awash in golden light. #nature #landscape #landscapes #photography #sunrise

A sunrise over a lake, with trees silhouetted in the foreground and background. A golden beam of sunlight reflects across the water, bisecting the image.

The other morning I had the pleasure of watching this heron stand perfectly still while leaves fell all around it. #birds #ornithology #wildlife #nature #photography

A heron stands in softly rippling water. A light glow from the sunrise shimmers in the reflection. Fallen leaves are scattered in the water.

Testing out the Birds!🦉feed, here is a frosty little tree swallow🪶 #birds #ornithology #nature #photography #birdsky

A tree swallow sitting atop of a wooden post. Attached to the post is a birdhouse meant to help provide habitat for native bird species. The post and birdhouse are rimed with frost. Light from the sunrise slants across the image, bathing the bird and wooden post in an golden light.

In light of some of the latest climate news (mostly regarding the AMOC) I’ve been thinking about this passage from The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Beautiful prose for worrying times. #literature #books #reading #climate

Passage from The Road by Cormac McCarthy. It reads as:

"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery."

Every day I am thankful that Michigan has such accessible parks to visit and enjoy. This photo was taken at Crosswinds Marsh in SE MI. #photography #nature #landscape #landscapephotography #michigan

A footbridge crossing a marshy wetland area. The inner curve of the bridge is surrounded by tall plants in the foreground. The background is overlapping groups of trees and shrubbery. A clear blue sky with wisps of cloud.

Hi bluesky! I'm a hobby photographer looking for a place to share my work. Where are my bird, nature, and photography lovers? #birds #birding #ornithology #photography #wildlife #nature #birdsky #michigan

A red-winged blackbird perched on a cattail, plucking seeds from the very top of the plant. The photo was taken in a marshy area.
