hey so who was going to tell me that MY BOOK—my silly-little-autistic-lesbian-YA-beach-volleyball-summer-camp-romcom—comes out NEXT YEAR 🧍‍♀️

Marisa DiNovis at Knopf has bought Birdie Schae’s debut YA novel, SMASH OR PASS. The sapphic romance follows 16-year-old Ellie, an autistic people-pleaser whose plan to reinvent herself at beach volleyball summer camp takes an unexpected turn when she finds herself falling for her grumpy teammate. Publication is slated for summer 2026; Brent Taylor at Triada US negotiated the deal for North American rights.

sometimes i think i’m smart and then i remember that, up until a few months ago, i was fully convinced y/n in fanfiction stood for yes or no, so i would literally read it as “i love you, yes or no?” & i’d get so frustrated because like idk you tell me??

✨ YA BOOK NEWS ✨ I'm so excited to announce that my next YA duology, a romantasy called WICKED ENDEAVORS, is coming in Summer 2026! If So Let Them Burn was about the power of love, then Wicked Endeavors is about the poisonous yet motivating power of hate. Black female rage abounds in this one 😈

Author of So Let Them Burn and the forthcoming This Ends In Embers Kamilah Cole's WICKED ENDEAVORS, a YA romantasy duology set in a Spanish Renaissance-inspired kingdom, about a vengeful teen who cons her way into a high society of elite witches, only for her revenge to be threatened by her warring feelings for both a manipulative enemy prince and the stoic childhood friend who betrayed her, pitched as a love letter to the power of Black women's anger, to Alexandra Hightower at Little, Brown Children's, in a six-figure deal , at auction, in a two-book deal, for publication in summer 2026, by Emily Forney at BookEnds (world).

🔥😈COVER REVEAL😈🔥 THRILLED to share the cover of TO A DARKER SHORE, my YA romantic fantasy about an autistic inventor going to hell to avenge her best friend sacrificed in her place—only to find him alive but monstrously transformed. 🔥By one of my favorite artists, Flora Kirk

Cover reveal, April 2nd

A book cover for TO A DARKER SHORE featuring a fat girl in a bodice and skirt running and carrying a crossbow, a wry, determined smile on her white face looking over a shoulder, dark hair flying behind her. She’s above the pit of hell and surrounded by levels of hell, with fire, devils, mirrors, and towers rising up to mountains and a sun in the sky, watched over by a large face of a golden god. The image is set between two golden columns. A sad monster boy watches the girl from behind a broken mirror, bloody hand pressed to the glass. Colors are red, gold, and purple. Author’s name at the bottom: Leanne Schwartz

being an author is so weird because i’ll just be writing my silly little book for months & weeks & days until it’s eventually finished. which is when i look around and realize there’s no one to celebrate with. like why is it kind of anticlimactic in a way???

me: this book’s plot is actually a metaphor for lesbian comphet & the way autistic children have to make themselves smaller in response to— the book:

Chapter 16: as a wise woman once said: let it go
