Edith Nesbit as in E. Nesbit as in The Railway Children?
This makes perfect sense. I read a lot of her children’s books when I was little and they’re all, now I think about it, deeply gothic.

Same as I ever was. Tea, talking. You know. Now even more easily distracted. I’ve got half-grown kids, cats and a garden I pretend is ‘wild’. Doing a bit of headteaching now.
