Celebrating 1 million square feet of Green Roofs within in 30 years at one neighborhood with a population of 2,500. This equals around 400sf/person. Over three decades ago, this comprehensive and interconnected green infrastructure master plan was unparalleled in Europe, and perhaps even globally.

It is as simple as it is. Trees are the foundation of life and biodiversity because they create multi-layered habitats, nourish the soil, and support thousands of organism species. This applies for dense urban areas, commercial land, residential properties, agricultural land, and recreational land.

Are BUS STOPS a mirror of society or just a means to an end? Biophilic design in public transportation reveals not only how service providers prioritize their passengers, but also reflects a society that embraces the integration of public transit as a cornerstone. compare EU with USA #biophilic

Waste-to-energy facilities fundamentally generate toxic pollution, emit substantial greenhouse gases, and undermine recycling initiatives. While adorning these factories with green roofs and green walls may reduce their visual impact but fail to address the underlying environmental problems.

🤔Is LEED Finally Obsolete? ⚠️ LEED was an American invention that emerged in the early 1990s to reduce the environmental impact. Now the US Admin attacks all that's green. What concerns me is the silence from many powerful professional organizations and industry associations.

In textbooks, guidelines, manuals, or on supplier and installer websites and brochures, we often come across the terms "𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹," "𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻," 𝗼𝗿 "𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹" when discussing roofing and/or Green Roofs. This ambiguous terminology serves merely as a label. These terms are inherently subjective.

A GREEN ROOF with slopes ranging from 10 to 50 degrees in alpine regions face distinct challenges, like extreme weather conditions, limited growing seasons, and high levels of UV exposure. This is the first in North America where pre-grown mats featuring native vegetation (excluding Sedum species).

I am thrilled to share that one of my special projects is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The public natural swimming pool in Albstadt, Germany, is a chemical-free facility that utilizes biological filters, and plants in a designated regeneration zone instead of chlorine for water purification.
The image shows a natural swimming pool with clear, green water, surrounded by lush vegetation and trees. The pool has wooden decks and steps for access. The text overlay on the image says "JUST CLEAR CHEMICAL-FREE WATER." There are also two smaller inset images showing similar natural swimming pools in different settings. A school's so green, it practically grows electricity! Solar panels are arranged across a vibrant green roof. This innovative design not only generates clean energy but also helps manage stormwater and reduce the urban heat island effect, making the school a beacon of eco-conscious architecture.
An aerial view captures the modern, eco-friendly roof of the Neckar-Realschule, a school integrating green infrastructure with renewable energy. The scene highlights a commitment to environmental responsibility in an urban educational context.
From a high vantage point, the roof of the Neckar-Realschule showcases a striking commitment to sustainability. Rows of gleaming solar panels are meticulously arranged across a vibrant green roof, creating a checkerboard pattern of technology and nature. The lush sedum groundcover thrives beneath the panels, offering both insulation and a habitat for urban wildlife. This innovative design not only generates clean energy but also helps manage stormwater and reduce the urban heat island effect, making the school a beacon of eco-conscious architecture. The reddish-orange facade of the building peeks out, grounding this impressive display of green technology in its educational setting.
