A signal is easy to get. Knowing if it’s real is hard.    Is the change unusual? Does it persist? Are independent signals changing too?    One signal tells you where to look. Corroboration helps determine what deserves attention.

MYTH: A wastewater signal tells you exactly where biological change came from. REALITY: Not on its own. One signal tells you something changed. Multiple independent signals help tell you what that change means. That’s how signal becomes intelligence a decision-maker can act on.

Most wastewater surveillance filters down to known pathogens and stops. The part that doesn't match anything on file is exactly where something new would show up - and exactly what a lot of current systems aren't built to catch. #WastewaterSurveillance #PublicHealth #Biosurveillance
