As #NationalKidneyMonth ends, we stress early AKI detection to protect long-term kidney health. In >29,000 critical illness survivors, the AKI rate was 59.2%. Patients with non-recovery from AKI at hospital discharge had the highest 15-year mortality. PMID: 36848723 #NGAL #AKI

This study shows that even if a patient recovers from an episode of AKI, they lose two years of their life expectancy.
