Dr David Martin @bioinformagic.bsky.social · 09/04/2026Coot and Moorhen are usually something like a branch tapping rather than the real bird. 010
Dr David Martin @bioinformagic.bsky.social · 09/04/2026I agree there is a long way to go but the common species are generally correct. You missed the Ptarmigan at the Friary and the Bitterns in Lochee :) The false positive rate is quite low with regard to calls but much higher when looking at species so anything surprising should always be checked. 110
Dr David Martin @bioinformagic.bsky.social · 08/04/2026if you go to app.birdweather.com, navigate to the Eastfield node (near Dronley wood) you can access the recordings from the species list. I'd trust your ears more than the AI modelapp.birdweather.comBirdWeather 110
Dr David Martin @bioinformagic.bsky.social · 08/04/2026I'll see if I can get the recordings. I don't think they were particularly high confidence. 110
Dr David Martin @bioinformagic.bsky.social · 08/04/2026Picked up Willow warbler today on the acoustic monitors at JHI living field and at Fintry. Greater Whitethroats as well. Just a few calls and I haven't checked the recordings to validate but they aren't usual false positives. 100
Dr David Martin @bioinformagic.bsky.social · 04/04/2026I have a few audio detections in March, but all single calls. 000
Dr David Martin @bioinformagic.bsky.social · 07/03/2026Picked them up on my bird detector a few days ago. Same time as last year within a few days 120

Dr David Martin @bioinformagic.bsky.social · 03/03/2026Last year the first recorded call on my network was 5th March, then two weeks before a few more. Then a full flock on 29th 010
Dr David Martin @bioinformagic.bsky.social · 03/03/2026This is what I have been waiting for. First chiffchaff recording of the year today. 111

Dr David Martin @bioinformagic.bsky.social · 23/11/2025Nice. The bird detector picked some up in my front garden (Lochee) a few years ago. Weren't back this year. Quite early for them? 100

Dr David Martin @bioinformagic.bsky.social · 15/05/2025Yoou cant go chasing the robot (CnutAI) but instead learn how to teach and assess what you want rather than using the formulae of the past which was a very different time. Yes, when I was a student some profs wouldn't mark anything other than a handwritten piece b/c of copy and paste. 000
Dr David Martin @bioinformagic.bsky.social · 15/05/2025Nonsense. The line is impossible to draw unless you go back to handwriting everything. If we are educating for the modern age then we need to be assessing person and process, not product. Using an AI is fine, if you critically assess the output and are able to appropriately attribute. 110
Dr David Martin @bioinformagic.bsky.social · 15/05/2025The problem is they see the product as being what is assessed, not the person. And so they will produce a suitable product. 020
