I just don't get the outrage. It seems like such a nothing move. Maybe it will make some middle-aged voters like him more, but it seems pretty clearly harmless at worst and investing more time in literacy skills at best.

I'm not sure I agree that time spent in school at that age is so valuable. We're talking about 3rd and 4th graders. Any time spent that involves basic literacy skills seems fine to me (not that I really care about cursive at all - just doesn't seem like a big deal to me)

I'm so glad we have a thoughtful politician expressing clear moral reservations over a complex and tragic geopolitical situation. Oh, what's that? He thinks Hitler is misunderstood and that Israel did 9/11 as well as the Iraq war? Ah, well. Nevertheless.

It's not that he's good. There are plenty of good players. It's that he's, like, one of the best in the world at his position? And would be, behind Haaland, probably the best ST in England?

"Anxiety disorder masquerading as political analysis" unfortunately describes a significant portion of discourse on this website (and other websites too!)

For this draft, what's a realistic outcome for teams drafting in the 15-25 range (I am a Lions fan tell me there is hope please)

I am an Arsenal fan. I love what they do. I love when they score. I simply do not understand how they keep getting away with it. They're not cheating. They're doing it in the open. How is it possible that A) nobody can defend it and B) nobody can replicate it? Literally how is that possible?

I really feel like all the "clown on bad AI" jokes are pretty weak. There are many, many real concerns about AI and some of them are funny too! But if your main argument is "the tech is bad" well then what are you gonna do when the tech gets better?

It is, currently, the central flaw with progressive online discourse: a deep and immutable belief that all "normal" people actually agree with my political positions (how convenient), the only viable strategy is to help them realize that they are already on my side and should vote as such

Do you think you're seeing now what Holmes saw that made him trade up for TeSlaa in the draft? What did other people miss that made the pick so highly criticized?

I just don't understand the argument against. He has an MVP and he's going to finish with AT LEAST 450+ HR. Has any non-steroids era player EVER had that on their resume and not made the HOF?

I think it would be weird for sure, but lots of things I'd find weird in my relationship other people don't seem to mind. We don't need to police AI use on small issues as if it's objectively morally repugnant. That being said, totally agree - I use AI plenty but would never pay for it.

Also I get that this post is itself "in a jokey tone" but like, it's really just not evil to ask AI to write texts or emails for you. It's lazy, sure, and obviously it removes an element of human connection, but c'mon. We're not talking about crimes against humanity here.

Congrats! Also, really enjoyed this piece. It's so interesting to see how these tools that we all know are theoretically important are actually being utilized, especially by parties who might otherwise be disadvantaged by them.

I do think that you can acknowledge that leagues have failed to market gambling in a safe and healthy way without the next step necessarily being "and therefore the only solution is making gambling illegal again"

I think there's something to say for the fact that Mahomes has 5 SB appearances compared to 1 for the other three guys combined. Other than that, nobody else compares to those four.

I certainly have my Madueke concerns as an Arsenal fan, but at very least I see the concept, and I don't really worry that much about giving Chelsea more money to waste on more young attackers who will never get playing time. I literally have no idea how any Spurs fan could be happy about MGW.

It's like you always say - the reason that my team lost was because they didn't do the thing that I wanted them to do, and all the things that they did do which I liked had nothing to do with why they lost whatsoever

The new PTFO is a big one. The full 61-page document we exclusively obtained has layers upon layers upon layers. It's a truly fascinating journey behind the NFL and NFLPA’s locked doors. And it's right here, for anyone who wants to see and/or support our journalism: www.pablo.show/p/the-holy-g...

Obviously Lamine is incredible, but do you think he genuinely deserves this award based on his production this season? It feels like a little bit of a stretch to me (he might win every year for the next decade, but still)

Honestly this seems kind of... good? Making AI pay for content, finding high quality journalism in return? I'd like to see it trickle down to local news too but isn't this a first step in the right direction?

Not so sure how salary stuff works in soccer, but wouldn't it be worth it for Leverkusen to just pay him more than whatever Bayern would offer to keep him? Is there a number that could convince him to stay?

Isn't there something to be said though for the fact that people saw those disgusting "Kamala is for they/them" ads and WEREN'T turned off or offended? Even if it didn't change their minds for Trump, it didn't do the opposite either.

I went to a comedy show in Baltimore in 2021 where Dore was performing. I'd never heard of him before, but the crowd was so... particular that I felt I needed to take off both my mask and my Kippah in order to stay safe. Truly one of the most uncomfortable (and unfunny!) experiences I've had.

That is the thing about this all which I think people aren't sufficiently covering: yes, it was stupid, but it's also just cruel. It's not funny. It's not even a good joke, it's just being a jerk for the sake of it. It's not even funny!

As a Yankees fan who is beginning to lose faith in him, that 123 OPS+ is really surprising to me. How much is that being propped up by his really hot first week or so? Same question for the underlying metrics. I want you to be right, though! A 120 OPS+ with his defense is elite.

Also it's not a natural or inevitable result - the ultimate failure is the result of other humans messing with the people who run the park. Frankly, it's pretty clear in the movie that, barring bad people doing stupid and greedy stuff, the park could have worked out fine!

Also, it's okay to think that falling birthrates are a problem (I do!) without following that up with "and here is why that perfectly fits into my pre-existing narrative". Sometimes things are problems and we don't know why they happen! That's okay to admit!

Out of curiosity, what do you consider lucky/unlucky in:re xG? As a relatively uneducated reader, 2.88 seems like maybe you'd expect 3 goals at most? So 2-0 seems lucky, but not extremely so, but I'm happy to be wrong!

There's an interesting Brady similarity here. In their prime, everyone acknowledged they were elite, but there were always others standing with them in that top tier. And then, they just... don't age, while everyone else around them retires. Xabi Alonso has been coaching for years already!

Is there a world where Darnold is genuinely better than Smith? Like, if what we saw from him last year was 100% real, is the ceiling still higher than what Geno has been doing?

I think the key here is, at the end of the day, D's can genuinely do very little with control of 0/3 branches. But there is tremendous PR value in being SEEN doing things, even if it's largely symbolic. Progressives, who have never really had much power, are experts at this. Mainstream D's aren't.

I should clarify, obviously players move around all the time, but the way that player mobility functions is primarily about enriching clubs, not players.

Binyamin Novetsky @binyaminnov.bsky.social · 25/03/2025
My theory is that FIFPRO is bizarrely weak, and the lack of a real union has severely damaged player mobility. Any legitimate sense of collective bargaining would recognize that this system massively disenfranchises players! We value players based on transfer fees which they don't get a cent of!

Ultimately, there is something deeply compelling about Trent's story, even for me as an American Arsenal fan. Just a clear-cut, homegrown legend, and I think that story ending kinda stinks regardless of the logic. There's no "good" or "right" way for him to leave, it'll hurt no matter what.

I'm really curious about the long-term effects of this. In baseball, for instance, hitting free agency is the ultimate goal and teams have to pay A LOT up front to keep young players from it, but in both footballs top players hitting FA is super rare. Could this be a paradigm shift in the making?

Famously, the problem with people having their constitutional rights denied to them is how much people like them, and what the age/race of the people who like them are! If we all didn't like them, then that means their rights don't matter, right? Right???

I find it hard to believe that there is a conscious antisemitism driving this because I really think anti-Arab racism is the main motivating force. I just think they give zero shits about Jewish people whatsoever, but like that our existence somehow justifies their actions. Either way, Jews lose.

At least personally, as someone who generally follows the NWSL but isn't super keyed into it - why should I watch it? I feel like it's just going to give me the amount of knowledge I already have. It feels a little bit too broad and generic

I am, personally, deeply concerned about antisemitism on campuses, and I know that the UC system is particularly fraught with problems. Do I trust the people who just fought to free Andrew Tate, a man who uses "Jew" as a slur, to handle this situation with care and class? Over my dead body

On a basic level, how are they planning to score runs? Thinking in terms of RBI (which is obviously flawed, I know) you can see Judge driving in 130+, but nobody on their current lineup had more than 62 last year! You can't win every game 1-0 or 2-1.

Do you feel (in hindsight) that we granted those perspectives too much legitimacy, or too little? Not to justify their position, and obviously this law is heinous, but was there a way we could have approached this "debate" about trans athletes that actually kept it centered on sports?

Unfortunately, I think pessimism and the refusal to actually accept victories are becoming defining features of Progressive voices worldwide. We are so enraptured by all that is wrong, we forget that things can actually get better! And then, we wonder why we lose elections!
