Remembered that usually I do a Bechtel type test for the LFF things I've watched. Gone To Earth - 50s film doing Victorian rural life, so not much diversity. The women do have names & do talk about things though. But it's showing old attitudes purposely & only the lead woman is fleshed out.

So far, my 2 films of the festival have both been set in semi-rural, historical/implied historical settings, involves romance & marriage, some men being pricks, & magic/belief in magic. This was not intentional. Not consciously anyway.

I do think wicker people could be a fun addition to a Vaesen rpg though! 😆😆

*sigh* I could watch Wicker again already! 💜 I have not, as suggested by Mr Skarsgård, come home to fuck a wicker chair though. I don't have a wicker chair for a start! 🤣🤣

And finally - the screening audience all seemed to love the film. There was a q&a, which was fun. Skarsgård & Colman were off to be on Graham Norton after the film intro, so tune into that this week! They were both looking very fine! Loving her hair! He was in one of his subtle outfits! 😆😆

Slightly blurry picture from the intro to the Wicker preview at London Film Festival. To the left are directors & writers Eleanor Wilson & Alex Huston Fischer, in dark browns & dark blues, doing an intro. Peter Dinklage is stood beside them in a black leather jacket (I think), while beside him is Elizabeth Debicki looking sharp in a black shiny suit. And to the right we have Alexander Skarsgård looking like Moist von Lipwig in a gold suit (shirtless), whispering to a gorgeous grinning Olivia Colman in black dress, huge black shawl, & sexy silvering curly hair.

...cameo from Richard E Grant, doing what he does best & getting a fun reaction from the audience. Going on too long I think, so rounding up - loved Wicker, can't wait to see it again at the end of the month. Hits my romantic side unlike Hollywood romcoms. Well worth checking out!

...his performance was monologing alone, which can land oddly in films, but he sold it well & with great humour. It's a big ensemble cast so not going to cover anyone else, but they were all on their A game, really rounding their characters out & making them breathe as real people. Cheeky...

...the prosthetics etc. but he manages such nuance despite that & hits the tone so wonderfully. I think many women in the audience were wondering how to put in an order for their wicker partner based on his performance. Peter Dinklage - a marvellous gay & mystical basket weaver. A chunk of...

...especially the creaks of wicker moving were very evocative & realistic. Acting - well....Olivia Colman was marvellous as I would expect & hope. She's wonderful as the fisherwoman. I adore her cheeky giggle! 10/10 no notes. Brilliant. Alexander Skarsgård must've been exhausted by the end with...

...comedy moments that are very much brought out by the entire cast. The style of speaking works very well with the rural-ish folklore setting. Ok - cinematography & design etc. It looks amazing & rich, but real. Wonderful work from all depts. Music was good & didn't try to take over. Sound...

...purchasing a copy of that soon because! She was at the screening & seemed happy at the end so I assume she didn't hate it! 😊 The film plot is very satisfying imo & the writing, especially dialogue is great (apparently much Blackadder was watched to get them in the mood). It's got some great...

Anyway - LFF screening tonight was a preview of Wicker & I will start by saying that I loved it! This is the sort of folkloric/gothy fairytale romance I love! None of those 80s/90s misogynistic romcoms for me! Let's start with story & plot - it's based on a short story by Ursula Wills & I will...

If bluesky is going to log me out everytime I have to switch my phone off in films, it's going to get very tedious very quickly! 🤨

Thank you. So far so good! Hope you're safe & well! Miss you! ❤

When I looked, it couldn't decide how many people I lived with & was confused generally on my gender, so not that smart!

All in all - it's an interesting film & worth a watch. I found the plot engaging & am curious as to what the original version would've been like if this is the reconstruction. Also worth a watch for any Powell & Pressburger fans or those interested in their films, since it's effectively been lost.

000

...but there are also some fun comic moments. It's set in Victorian times, so those are the attitudes. There are some lovely nature shots of the countryside, but also animals. However, there is some portrayal of fox hunting...albeit critically & nothing explicit.

The restoration is very good - the technicolour really pops from the screen. Lots of good actors in the film too, inc. a young George Cole. Ok plot - it's old fashioned, but interesting & essentially boils down to 2 blokes fighting over a beautiful woman in a rural setting. It's very dramatic,...

My 1st film of the festival was Gone to Earth (1950), which has been beautifully remastered & restored to as close to Powell & Pressburger's original cut as possible (apparently), rather than the re-cut & added to version by another director for the US market.

Well exactly. And Alexander Skarsgård seems to really enjoy playing odd characters, so I expect he's gone all in, & I think together they could be great.

So many things! Think it's 19 films in total & I'll post about each after seeing them. But the one I'm most excited for might be Wicker, because it looks absurd.

Finally weather today that is more befitting autumn!

London Film Festival starts today & all being well I've a bunch of films to see. 😆 I've allowed myself to book a few more than the last few years, which might not have been wise, but there were so many I wanted to see. 🤞 Still not as many as I used to see & not as many as I'd have liked.

Last one for today. There is something almost primeval about this photograph of Stainburn Forest, on Lindley Moor, between Otley and Harrogate. It has a raw, unfiltered beauty of its own. Image: The Grim North, CC BY-NC-ND 2.0

Nope. I didn't think they used it in their older board games. Not seen any of their newer ones.

Your art style reminds me a lot of the style Awaken Realms use in a lot of their board games.

Glistening under a grey Yorkshire sky, the 13th-century tiled floors of Byland Abbey undergo a stunning transformation in the rain. The downpour awakens the deep emerald greens, warm mustard yellows, and rich terracotta oranges of the medieval floor.

And lots & lots of fabulous Steel! 😉

Exhausted thanks to noisy brain last night. Time for a snacky tea & an ep of Midsummer Murders. Seen these ones, so won't matter as much if I miss bits.

I think they were just - animated bunnies & nice music. Or they thought I wouldn't remember, which I might not have done, except they told me as a kid & let me watch it again & found it traumatising that time at least.

Not sure if it was a Python film or something like Clue.

I saw it in the cinema. I think I was fine....well apart from growing up to be like I am obvs. I think I found bits of the Neverending Story more scary. Mind you - my parents sat me in front of Watership Down as a baby so I was prob already scarred!

One of the kids I used to babysit for had somehow managed to see it & was convinced sharks would get to her upstairs, on the top bunkbed, in their house which was sooooo far from the sea.

Doctor Who - Ghostlight. I think it was the drawers of insects mainly, since I was very spider & insect phobic back then. But also the Doctor being hard on Ace.

🧵The iconic limestone pavements of Yorkshire, famously found around Malham Cove and Ingleborough, are spectacular post-glacial landscapes. Formed and exposed by the last Ice Age, these flat expanses of Carboniferous limestone feature blocks known as ‘clints’, separated by deep fissures

Twisleton Scar’s hawthorn trees are among the most photographed and recognisable natural landmarks in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Rather than being a single tree with a documented historical story or human-planted heritage, these hardy hawthorns are celebrated for their resilience, distinctive appearance and close connection to the ancient landscape. Their story is inseparable from the rugged limestone pavements of Twisleton Scar. Growing from thin soils between the limestone, the trees have endured centuries of harsh weather, strong winds and exposed conditions. Their twisted forms and weather-beaten branches are a reminder of nature’s ability to survive in challenging environments, making them an iconic symbol of the Yorkshire Dales. The heads I didn't mind. I think the whole sanitarium bit & the mooses head later were more scary for me.

So many strange shows we grew up with. Loved them! Nostalgia hit. Am the later end of X, so Xenial I guess. Didn't see Mr Ed for example, but was about for end of Crackerjack.

Minions & Monsters is lovely. If you have ever studied the history of cinema or Classical Hollywood it’s an absolute treat.

Well that's disc 2 done. A few ransom eps & lots of Honey West kicking blokes butts.

000

Perhaps one for an rpg 60s villain.

Saucy - Honey West slips out of sauna, out of towel & into a coat, but with no indication she put anything else on.

Yet another 'Julie' bot. They're clearly multiplying.

Done except for backstitching. My bees are a bit scrappy, but nevermind.

Wip cross-stitch on 14 count white aida. A beehive in shades of yellow sits on a bed of flowers (honest) and greenery, sat in a pot, which is also shades of yellow. 3 bees are buzzing round the top of the hive.

Honey West took out 2 big blokes & a woman in a fight, while her partner took out 1. 😂😂😂😂

Everyone got very wet at the end of that one. 😂😂

Must be chilly on set. Honey West's partner Sam is very pert. 😂😂

I had the pleasure and privilege of attending @calgor.bsky.social and @draconder.bsky.social's beautiful wedding today! Two kind, loving people who deserve all the happiness they bring each other. (AND JUST LOOK AT THIS CAKE!!)

A wedding cake in the form of a castle with a huge red dragon towering above it. A D20 is visible near the base.
