@hacks4pancakes I thought the optics were bad last time, but this time looks even more bizarre. <sarcasm> I'm sure it's just a _coincidence_ that folks have been thinking recently about how an assassination attempt is good for votes. For examples, see the attached […] [Original post on rants.au]

Fair comment on Elon Musk mischaracterising Autism and using it as an excuse to be a jerk. Using disability as a shield for bad behaviour is disgusting and disrespectful to people with disabilities. #ElonMusk #Autism #ADHD #AuDHD
Meme that uses the template known as "Yes Chad", also known as "Nordic Gamer". The person on the left side of the illustration is initiating the conversation. A caption above his head identifies him as "Elon Musk". His hands are clasped under his chin and his head is tilted sideways as though he's trying to look like he's a deep thinker, but the expression of his eyes and face show he cannot comprehend the conversation. On the right side of the illustration, the head and shoulders of Chad from the meme is facing left. The caption above Chad's head shows his response to Elon Musk is on behalf of "Everyone Else".

Elon Musk: I'm a weirdo because I’m autistic.

Everyone Else: You're not weird because you're autistic. You're weird because you're a billionaire daddy’s boy larping as an inventor and entrepreneur, whose intergenerational wealth is based on slavery and apartheid. Leave the autistic community out of your cringefest.

Next to the photo is says:

Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Minister for Housing, Planning and Consumer Affairs, Minister for Skills and Training, Member for Braddon

The main part of the Press Release says:

The key so-called independents who could hold the balance of power after Saturday's election are destructive left-wing radicals.
They want to end agriculture, aquaculture, forestry and manufacturing.
They've said it themselves.
They will shut down the traditional industries that have built Tasmania's prosperity.
They will destroy jobs and hurt Tasmanian families.
They will force up taxes.
Tasmanians need to think twice about voting for a so-called independent.
They are even more dangerous than the Greens.

Projection based on preference count for the seat of Dickson.
Labor Party, Ali France, Vote: 53.4%
Liberal National Party, Peter Dutton, 46.6%Screenshot from Guardian article. Text reads:

Liberal senator James Paterson has appeared to back Peter Dutton’s leadership of the opposition in the event the Coalition loses the election.

Paterson, speaking to Channel 9’s Peter Stefanovic from the Liberals’ election night event in Brisbane, said this when asked about Peter Dutton’s leadership:

I’m very proud to have served Peter in this term of Parliament. He’s a great man. You know him, I know him. He’s a really good person and he always puts the national interest first. So if he wants to continue to serve in public life in any capacity, I’d welcome that.

Paterson also said it was too early to jump to conclusions, and that the Coalition’s internal polling suggests there can be as much as an 8% difference between on the day votes and pre-poll votes, with the latter form favouring the Coalition.

Paterson also had this to say of the Labor campaign in Dickson, where Dutton appears to be in trouble:

Labor absolutely went for Peter in this campaign. More than any campaign previously. They poured in an enormous amount of money and he also had Climate 200 funding a candidate to try and tear him down, plus a national advertising campaign from Labor in the tens of millions of dollars. It was very personal and very targeted to him. So, look, I’m not surprised if that has an effect.

Photo of Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, leader of the Liberal Party. He has sandy, light grey hair and his facial expression is thoughtful, clear-eyed, and dignified. He's wearing a navy blue shit jacket and light blue, open-neck shirt. Pinned to his lapel is a small, enamelled badge that depicts a Canadian flag.
At the time if writing this comment, vote counting has not not concluded, but Mark Carney is far enough ahead that it is safe to predict he and the Liberal Party have won Canada's 2025 federal election.A diagram that represents voting results in the Canada Federal Election for 2025. Each coloured square block represents a seat. Above the diagram is a numerical total of how many seats have been declared for each party. The summary is: LIB: 163, CON: 146, BQ: 24, NDP: 9, GRN: 1, PPC: 0, Other: 0. These are live results that show where a candidate is leading or elected, and the numbers are changing every few minutes more tally results arrive. The chart should be interpreted as an indication of the result, not a precise prediction of the final result.

A blurry photo, possibly a freeze-frame of a video, that shows a woman punching a Nazi.
The punch is a powerful right-hook to the Nazi's chin.
The woman is middle-aged or a Boomer, and only as tall as the height of the Nazi's shoulder. She's showing no fear despite the physical mismatch.
The Nazi is a tall, skin-head man, with a goatee that look like his sense of fashion ossified in the mid-1990s and his sense of morality is stuck in the 1930s or 1940s. He appears to have been caught flat-footed by the righteous retribution of the woman.

Peter Dutton has an intense stare and thin-lipped grimace that makes him look manic, jumpy, and unhinged, as though he could snap at any moment and commit violence on anyone within reach. For this press event, Peter Dutton has switched to tortoise-shell glasses frames with a red and white gingham shirt. This style change doesn't make him look more friendly or relatable, and it fails to make him look intelligent or thoughtful. Instead, he looks like a thug who's lost his confidence, is trying too hard to fake confidence, and as a result has a presence that is insincere and physically threatening.
On the left side of the photo, is a woman wearing a teal-coloured cap and a dark blue dress with white daisies. This may be Kirilly Dutton, Peter Dutton's wife. She, too, has a smile that is so fake it's unnerving. She's smiling like a hostage-victim.

Photo by James Brickwood of Peter Dutton. He's wearing a dark blue suit and a light blue tie. Photo of Peter Dutton with a new look the 2025 Federal Election campaign. You cannot help but be repulsed by how insincere and askew his smile looks. It overrides everything else in the photo. He's wearing wearing new glasses as part of his "softer" look makeover for the 2025 election campaign, but they do nothing to make him look smart or caring because his fake smile is generating such an intensely negative visceral reaction. He's wearing an open-collar plaid shirt, but it doesn't give him a casual appearance because his facial expression is one of a predator about to attack someone it sees as prey.

His mouth is a frightening grimace, but his eyes are hopeful: "I hope I can fool people into believing I'm smiling." Sitting on his lap is a small dog with light brown fur and long, floppy ears. Photo of Peter Dutton with his lips pursed, mid-speech. He's wearing a pale blue shirt with an open collar as though to suggest, "I am just like you, relaxed and a human being." The wall in the background is white with some diagonal yellow lines and a black oval or egg shape. This black area helps to stop Peter Dutton's head from blending into the background of the photo, but it also forms a black halo around his head that looks like a terrible haircut.

Timeline of the first cabinet of Donald Trump.
Starting on the left of the timeline is the US presidential election at the end of 2016 and inauguration of Trump at the start of 2017. On the right side of the timeline is the US presidential election of 2020 and inauguration of Biden at the start of 2021. Each row in the timeline represents a key role in the Cabinet. Of those roles, only seven were filled by one person who lasted most or all of the term without replacement, and fifteen were fulfilled by two or more people due to record high turnover.

A Tesla Cybertruck exploded while parked outside the front door of the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, on New Year’s Day 2025.
The façade of the building and the text above the door reading "TRUMP" are gold-coloured, but now streaked with soot and water. The angular panels of the Cybertruck are misshapen, and the windows are removed by the force of the explosion. An orange coloured fireball is emerging from the windows and roof of the vehicle to a height that I estimate is approximately two metres above its roof.
