Here’s the SCTV sketch with Rick Moranis playing Michael McDonald. A classic. youtu.be/4JLbhEUE_5U?...

The craziest Yacht Rock moment ever and it’s not close — the ‘Into the Night’ video by Benny Mardones. The sequel to our Yacht Rock doc might be just trying to figure out what the F is happening in this, and also, should Benny be in jail? youtu.be/zWHjJt4833I?...

We covered the importance of McDonald’s ‘Sweet Freedom’ video in our Running Scared Rewatchables — it’s the last gasp of the Yacht Rock era. I think all Yacht Rock songs should be from 1977-1985 with only a couple exceptions and this one of them (since it ended Yacht Rock).

Here’s the 12-episode Yacht Rock web series on YouTube in HD that we kept mentioning. These guys created Yacht Rock 20 years after it died. And it’s still funny. That’s what a fool believes, Kenny. youtu.be/YNTARSM-Fjc?...

This was the peak of Yacht Rock before we even knew what Yacht Rock was — the Doobies in Santa Barbara in 1982 during their farewell tour. There’s a reason our director Garret Price started the doc with a song from this day. youtu.be/3LCB_RdfdXc?...

This Doobie Brothers farewell concert album from 1982 is absolutely fantastic. McDonald is out of his mind great in this. I had this as a cassette in the 1980s and 1990s and it was an unbelievable road trip album. open.spotify.com/album/3byRgm...

Quick thread off our Yacht Rock doc (on Max and HBO!)… My Spotify Yacht Rock playlist has just about all the songs in the doc plus a bunch more. I had to throw a couple Eagles and Hall and Oates songs in even though they don’t count as Yacht Rock bands. Sorry. open.spotify.com/playlist/1WN...

So our newest Music Box film is called “Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary” — watch it right now on HBO and Max. It’s good!
