I ran a test of container file system performance on Mac OS by the simple expedient of measuring `npm install` with a cold cache. github.com/llimllib/con... Orbstack did shockingly well, paying basically no performance tax whatsoever for running in a container. I've not previously used it

David Hogg's article on LLMs in Astrophysics, "Why do we do Astrophysics?" is the most thoughtful critique I've yet read on the topic, and relevant for computer scientists and software developers: arxiv.org/html/2602.10181

So is everything fine? No everything is not fine. Recall that the practice of astrophysics cannot be learned from reading about astrophysics, and that astrophysics is not about obtaining the answers, but rather the work we do, ourselves, to find those answers. When we offload that work to LLMs, we are no longer doing astrophysics, we are no longer becoming astrophysicists, and, eventually, we no longer are astrophysicists. The let-them-cook policy, in the end, leads to the death of astrophysics, the end of astrophysics at universities, and the end of astrophysics education. Astrophysics would no longer be by humans, and then it would no longer be for humans.

I've been thinking more about how to visualize the "more chances, fewer points per shot" vs "fewer chances, more points per shot" and I came up with this graphic. On the y axis is "opportunity rate", which subtracts turnover rate from offensive rebound rate + bsky.app/profile/bill...

I think the key answer to my previous question is that the Celtics are _way_ ahead of the rest of the league in field goals per possession, allowing them to get away with below-league-average shooting and still have an extremely efficient offense
