That… is what people mean when we say phones are making people unhappy. XD

Has anyone ever played music for whales? Sound seems so important to their lives. I have a feeling they’d like jazz. Or 8 bit.

Same!!! I’m really happy with how well this worked. It was a five minute job that fixed something that annoyed me several times a day.

Yes I know you can use wax, but it has issues: It gets gummy and sticky in heat and when the drawers aren’t opened and closed regularly. It’s not reversible, the wax will always be impregnated into the wood once applied. It doesn’t help with jamming due to racking drawers.

PTFE tape works SO WELL on old drawers that are jamming due to friction/ racking against the frame! I got it on AliExpress and put it on the runners and anywhere the sides of the drawer were scratched. They glide like silk now!

Right but this type of thinking about it being an animals home too, basically no matter what, is standard Australian.

This is an extremely Australian attitude. That’s why we were so outraged when that lady grabbed the baby one.

It always bothers me when the cap colors don’t match the pen. Glass cabochons from Ali, and little #lasercut paper dots that I glue on using tacky craft glue. The smallest things soothe my soul sometimes. 😆 The container is, of course, #gridfinity compatible: makerworld.com/models/768015.

A set of art markers with little glass dots on their caps that display their true color. The markers are in a grid organiser.

For the next time a troll gets mad about this new-fangled STEAM thing, here’s a book about maths from 1896!

HOWARD'S
ART OF RECKONING.

DEFINITIONS AND SIGNS.

Arithmetic is an Art; it is also a Science; as a Science, it treats of the nature and properties of Number; as an Art, it applies numbers to practical and useful purposes.

Art is knowledge utilised. Science is knowledge organised.

Art is practical. Science is theoretical.

Art of Reckoning = Practical Arithmetic.
Science of Number = Theoretical Arithmetic.

Account Sales is a written account of Goods sold, their price, expenses, and the net proceeds.

Agent. — An Agent, or Commission Merchant, transacts business for another person, who is called the Principal.

ANGLE, the difference in the direction of two lines proceeding from a common point; also a corner, or point where two lines meet; a square corner is called a right angle; an angle greater or less than a right angle is called an oblique angle.

Area, the surface included within any given lines.

Assets — The available property of a Person or of a Company.

Alloy is an inferior metal which is mixed with Gold or Silver in making Coin, for the purpose of making such Coin harder and more durable.

Auditor. — A Person appointed to Audit or examine Accounts.

Note. — These definitions are limited to the sense in which the words are used in Business or in Practical Business Arithmetic. For Definitions omitted here, see related subjects in the Book.

INTRODUCTION.

“The perfection of Art will be the most apt and efficient system of Rules.” — Karslake.

“Every Science is evolved out of its corresponding Art.”
“There must be practice and an accruing experience, with its empirical generalisations before there can be Science.” — Herbert Spencer.

“The Art may do without the Science — the Science without the Art is a skeleton without flesh.” — John Stuart Blackie.

The ability to make Business Calculations with ease, accuracy, and speed, is an invaluable acquisition. The methods of Arithmetic used in Schools hitherto are too tedious and complex for practical uses, they are weighted with superfluous elements that needlessly encumber the operations, and distract and confuse the Learner: the Rules in this New Art of Reckoning omit the needless work, and by an easily-learned, simple, and natural arrangement lead directly to the required answer.

They are especially adapted to that large class of Persons who find it difficult, or impossible, mentally to grasp and retain complex numbers; such persons will find in this book:

“A Complete Teacher of Business Arithmetic,”
all the examples being worked out, and explained so as to be readily understood, transforming the drudgery of calculation into a pleasing pastime, and qualifying persons of ordinary intellectual capacity to surpass the performances of the “Lightning Calculators” who have astonished mankind.

Any fellow 3D printer printers out there? Those who know, I got mine fairly recently (October 2024, for my birthday) and I've been loving it. I have yet to design stuff myself, but I'm pumped for it. I recently stumbled upon this sheet from @billieruben.bsky.social and it's gold. Follow her! ❤️

It’s helped me so much. Now when I start to fall into an undesirable thought pattern, the right words come to me and I’m able to stop myself spiralling. It’s genuinely had such a positive impact on my life. I’ve been doing tasks that I’ve been avoiding for literally years. ☺️

🧵❓ What was the best idea you had last year ❓ I’ll start! I turn my therapy notes into catchy songs using AI, so the key messages get stuck in my head and form really strong thought pathways. Kinda like advanced mnemonics! It’s helped SO MUCH as I recover from PTSD and manage my anxiety.
