‘Friendly Neighbour’ had a Brexit vote without any consideration for GFA and the Border situation Ireland. UK ministers threatened to blockade Irish Trade. Others insisted we exit EU with you! Ireland executed its Brexit defence well; no dependence on England. GB is single digit of our exports.

I agree with your sentiment on the wider meaning of EU membership. I believe in the European Project. However the debate in England is about a Trade deal and ignores the full SM meaning👇. They duck €uro, some want ex ECHR, most don’t want ‘foreigns’ most want exceptionalism. Tory/Reform ends CTA.

Is it to Ireland’s advantage to allow England back into the EU? Ireland has turned Brexit to its advantage on many ways; economically & socially. What’s in it for Ireland? We have the all the trade and mobility access we want. We lose some of the competitive advantages we have gained.

As long as Labour thinks it can win a next election under FPtP it will defer implementing PR until the subsequent one. It’s how England works. I’m a bit uncomfortable with the use of ‘Celtic’ to describe the collective. The Celts were/are a race. Anybody living in Scotland Ireland or Wales is a valued citizen no matter where their ancestors came from. Football link doesn’t help either!

The world is moving at pace. Politics in Ireland is moving at pace. Politics in Scotland is moving at pace. England, when taking about getting closer to Europe, is actually trying to ‘make Brexit Work’. England is not making any preparations for the massive changes required to get back in the EU.
