If you're in my GP's office any time soon, prepare yourself for what many are calling the greatest mnemonic of all time. Come for E and P, but sit down and clap for I.

A screen in my GP's office advertising a mnemonic of signs to spot SEPSIS.

S slurred speech of confusion
E extreme shivering or muscle pain
P passing no urine all day
S severe breathlessness
I ot feels like you are going to die
S skin mottled or discoloured

Thanks. I'm dreading next week but being kind to myself this week. Love and solidarity to you too. We can do it.

I'm in a similar situation and I remind myself it's a serious illness for which I'm receiving medical treatment and there's nothing pathetic about recognising something about yourself isn't working right and doing what you need to do to fix it and returning to work is part of the process.

GTA6 has resurrected an argument from my youth. Has it changed? Have we learned anything in the intervening decades about video game violence? Let's see. #retrogaming youtu.be/oYZ7_ngFz7E

Is that pronounced zounds or zounds?

Obra Dinn is so good though.

Sega really knew how to make that sound chip sing and it sounded so unique and cool. I think Sonic 2 has my favourite soundtrack of the MS/GG Sonics but I've got very fond memories of Sonic Chaos too.

Bill @bill.mu · 21/09/2026

I would like that for you too. Sending hugs and best wishes. ❤️

This was somehow the best and worst episode.

000

Bill @bill.mu · 15/09/2026

It's so good. It's the game that got me into the series. Do you know where you're going from here?

Same and my wife finds it intensely irritating when she suggests I "google" something and I say I won't but I'll ecosia it. When I get chance I'm going to self-host a search engine and call it Ask Bill and I'll be even more insufferable about it.

I’m not the first person to make this observation but the prevalence of nauseating ai-generated business logos means stuff like this hits CRAZY for me now

Well no, that'd be weird. I don't think you've even met them.

Guessing this is someone under 40 who hasn't realised how precious it is and lucky you are to still have your parents around. You'll get a little older then you'll want to spend as much time as you can with them. Either that or your parents have bad vibes, which is also fine, but mine are nice.

When it came out I thought it was "I've got to move my jacket". He's having a nice time at the club dancing with a lady but then he says "wait a moment, I've left my jacket somewhere unsafe or where it might inconvenience someone, I'll be back" and then he's taken care of his jacket and it's fine.

Same! It's so nice to feel excitement for something isn't it? I watched it, enthralled, then immediately dug up my copy of Metroid Dread. Let's go!

Wild swimming and saunas. Becoming simultaneously more aware of my body and less concerned about what other people might think about it.

I'm not doing "name your fave game made before 2000" because all my favourite games were made before 2000. What's with all these whippersnappers on my Internet? Whence did they all come? I know how those elderly people shouting "get off my lawn" felt and they were right all along, dagnabbit!

I really like the Famicom Switch controllers (shown here in my Devil World video being used quite wrongly) but what else can I play with them? NES games and Nintendo World Championships: NES™ Edition for sure, but are there any eShop games that play nicely with two action buttons?

A screen grab from my Devil World video showing Devil World played on a Switch with two Famicom controllers attached. Playing in handheld mode, which is silly. Why would you do that? The B and A buttons are vertical. It is not ergonomic. This is a terrible idea.

I started smoking just in time to smoke on a train exactly once and it was glorious. I quit 6.5 years ago and it's objectively better for me but I still have fond memories of the actual smoking part of being a smoker and I totally understand the point you're making.

Bill @bill.mu · 02/09/2026

Yeah, agreed. I could see the EU going for something like this but at the same time we're seeing growth of rental/subscription models and more regulation of digital purchases probably accelerates it. That's not a reason to stop this specific shoddy practice though.

Bill @bill.mu · 01/09/2026

A lady sat near me on a quiet train and immediately started loudly scrolling TikTok. I asked if she could turn the sound off, and she turned to look at the wall like there was a switch there? Like I meant the sound of the train? She seemed unable to comprehend that other people could hear her phone.

This is very important and thank you for sharing it. I'm glad to know that your cat is very handsome. My cat is also I think very similarly handsome and I hope it is acceptable that I provide evidence of this for your consideration.

You know, I think you're right. First thing tomorrow morning I'm gonna punch Lenny in the back of the head.

He has to be like that. He can't allow himself to think "maybe Victoria Coren-Mitchell (or anyone else) has a point" because then he'd have to recognise he's lost his wife and kids and career for nothing. He can't do that. He's stuck. I'm glad he's unhappy, though.

A thermal bath / sauna near me has explicitly called out smart glasses in their "no cameras" rule and put a big sign up in the entrance. I saw a guy wearing them trying to get in and the staff were having none of it so he watched people going in. You can clock these glasses by how they stare at you.

I've been thinking and maybe the reason autistic people are exhausted all the time is because we have kittens.

A machine that chases shadows and climbs your curtains all night then crawls into bed with you in the morning. Calico kitten looking to camera.

Sometimes blocking out the noise is blissful, like not clicking on or sharing obvious ragebait. You can just walk away and enjoy your Sunday without subjecting anyone else to the manufactured anger. Leave the quote button alone and go have a good time, headphones or not. You deserve it.

Yeah that's pretty much her vibe. 🙂

I'm ill right now and PortsCenter is my goto comfort watch if that helps. Just finished Dragon's Lair. What were they thinking?

110

Bill @bill.mu · 02/08/2026

Yep. Long and repeated school closures were necessary... but only because Johnson didn't do other stuff that would have been much better.

010

Bill @bill.mu · 02/08/2026

School closures were probably necessary because Boris Johnson's government didn't do a bunch of other stuff they could have done instead. I think there is a more nuanced discussion to be had than "closing schools was good or bad".
