Ooh! One more silly dork thing: I like that the sonic screwdriver kinda sorta looks like a screwdriver again. Let's let the remote control model die forever, please.

Best lines in the first 5 movies of my Halloweenathon: - For me, God is a disease. - Who's going to believe a talking head? Get a job in a sideshow. - You will come back, won't you? - To me, you are a man. But to her you're just something to laugh at. - The girls will wake up when they are hungry.

I'm relieved to see the kids' Doctor Who cartoon is coming out soon. Hopefully this means that, by the time the main show comes back, someone other than bitter old academics will care about it. --A bitter old academic

This line delivery is proof that anything can be an art form, even clunky exposition.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas is up there. As someone who reads a lot of YA books for a living, that's one of the few that I would recommend to everyone. And I just got to meet the author this past weekend! 🥰

Started off my October right by watching Possession (1981) for the first time. And, well, I'm not entirely sure what I just experienced, but I do know there's never been a movie *less* in need of a remake.

While everyone's discussing 21st-century TV, I've been putting on the Justice League cartoon while doing homework, and man, I forgot *just* how post-9/11 that show is.

Even by that measure, any definition of Important Art that doesn't include Twin Peaks: The Return as a primary exemplar isn't worth my time.

My favourite of the bunch so far is Christianity: The First Three Thousand Years (riveting history). But I really need to finish up some non-school ones so I can read more horror in October...

My ideal Batman is goofy, but in the way that goth night at the club is goofy: a layer of darkness and melancholy juuuusst barely hiding the massive dork energy underneath. The minute I realised "Something in the Way" was diegetic, I knew this was going to be my favourite Batman movie.

Zagreus @bigtalkingbird.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

Recently realised why I related to Batman so much as a kid. It's because the impulse to become the thing that scares you is very real and not explored all that much in non-horror media. Putting on a batsuit is just a coping mechanism for a scary world, and it's one I personally find very effective.

Overrated - not so much anymore, but when his era was on, it was Eleven. Everyone loved him, and to me Matt Smith gives the least "Doctor" performance in the whole franchise. Underrated - Obviously Eight, because no one listens to audio or reads books. They don't know what they're missing!

To humanise a Nazi character, you have to confront what being a Nazi means. Klein's worldview is kept in the background, never openly challenged, and ultimately irrelevant to the plot. This series would work better if she was a generic alien dictator--something with less historical baggage.

000

Zagreus @bigtalkingbird.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

The Architects of History - A very timey-wimey saga that tries to complicate the question of whether the world would be better off destroyed or with Nazis in charge--and fails, in my opinion. I'm afraid the great production couldn't save this trilogy. #BigFinishDoctorWho
