Something has died in the garden so there are flies everywhere. I realised I wasn’t concerned because it won’t be long before nature has run its course and it’s all cleaned up. Then I thought about how magical that is and how arrogant we are when we believe we can improve on so perfect a system.

Our compromise was woody shrubby things like lavender, some set aside bits for self seeding things. We have grass because that’s what we inherited but a clover lawn or maybes system or robust tunnels made of woody shrubs would work too.

I have a dog and it depends. If you want to exercise them in your garden you do need a big open space for them to run which won’t get churned up by direction changes. Also, you don’t want meadows and delicate things that get knocked over because dog will snuffle through them making them flat.
