High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 09/08/2026Everyone with Android phones: anyone interested in testing out my hyper-casual mobile game called Balloonacy? I'll need an email so I can put you on the list of certified testers. The iOS version done, just need to finalize Android. I've pivoted away from writing for the time being. 2283
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 09/08/2026Right. I was thinking along the lines of a hand held doo-hickey. 010
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 09/08/2026OK, the guns are cool - but how was I supposed to get the concept of a "band" from a woman pointing a laser gun next to an alien in front of a rocket ship? OK, so where's a link? (to this band) 210
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 09/08/2026Why not a Bangers and Mash gun? You Brits would go nuts over that, right? 😀 100
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 09/08/2026Do you have an actual PHOTO of them? I'm looking at a cheesy 3D rendering.😜 110
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 09/08/2026The ray gun predates the laser by decades. H.G. Wells imagined the Heat-Ray in 1897; Garrett P. Serviss followed with a handheld “disintegrator” in 1898. By the 1930s, ray pistols were a sci-fi staple. The first working laser? Not until 1960. #PhasersToStun 7539
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 04/08/2026H.G. Wells didn't invent the Invisible Man. Stories of invisibility go back to ancient Greece, folklore, and fairy tales. What Wells did invent was the first scientifically plausible invisible man, transforming a magical fantasy into one of science fiction's greatest ideas. 25414
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 03/08/2026By the way, you're talking with a 64 year old graphics pro. I've been making my living off of computer graphics before the internet ever existed. AI is wonderful - if you know what you're doing with it. 110
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 03/08/2026At this point I just feed AI a starting image and with enough prompting, get something useable. 😜 100
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 03/08/2026I just found a motion pack online of dance moves. Imported them into Blender and off I go. No idea how they captured them. 110
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 01/08/2026I used to bite my nails...until I started wearing shoes. 120
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 31/07/2026Now...I did SAY it was gross in the lyrics... 130
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 31/07/2026C'mon, you're supposed to be DANCING by this point in the stage play - not checking out the 3D models on screen. 😛 120
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 30/07/2026The MoCap stuff had plenty of tutorials - hard part was making sure your model had the same articulation points as the motion capture file. With ChatGPT I'm sure you can just ask and it'll know how to do it. Or just have AI render what you want. 😛 020
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 30/07/2026This is all Blender - the free 3D program. (even though I make my living with After Effects). If AI had been around, it would've been much easier. Learned Blender via Youtube and tutorials. 110
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 29/07/2026Here's supposed to be the big ending to the Invasion stage play. We leave 'em singing! I found motion captures of multiple dance moves and applied them to 3D aliens. Can you spot the different moves? (The Time Warp is one of them) #delusionsofgrandeur #WhyWouldIGiveAShitAboutAnyOfThis? 6305
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 27/07/2026I guess you're saluting 4 people? I was getting comfortable in my obscurity. At this point I'll only write to piss people off. :-P 010
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 22/07/2026Voltaire imagined visitors from space. Robert Potter imagined aliens secretly infiltrating Earth. Kurd Laßwitz imagined Martian colonies. But it was H.G. Wells who fused these ideas into the modern alien invasion novel. #AckAckAck #SlimWhitman 36515
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 19/07/2026m-oron.com - And when "M" sent you to this website, it turned you into an "m-oron" ala "QAnon". Anyone get the zombo com reference?m-oron.comYou can believe ANYTHING at M-oron.com! 0101
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 19/07/2026Another part of the Invasion stage play was this evil character making his demands to the people of Earth ala The Corbomite Maneuver alien vis-à-vis Star Trek. The play's objective was to parody every Sci-Fi troupe out there. Coming to a theatre near you? #Iguessnot 2386
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 17/07/2026I'm a filmmaker by birth. I think in film scripts and action. I enjoyed adding that layer of internal dialogue in fiction, because you avoid it at all costs when writing a screen play. (voice over? Are you a LAZY writer?) :-) 120
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 17/07/2026Oh I've taken a 600 page novel I wrote and boiled it down to a 120 page screenplay. I WROTE the damn novel as a movie in my head, and STILL struggled to get it to 120 pages. After reading "Story of Your Life", THEN seeing Arrival drove me nuts to no end. (What kind of movie bullshit is all this?) 100
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 15/07/2026Arrival and Ted Chiang’s Story of Your Life share the same brilliant idea—but ask very different questions. The movie asks if you’d choose love knowing it ends in tragedy. The story asks something stranger: if you truly knew the future, could you even choose to change it? #ScienceFiction #TedChiang 35313
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 12/07/2026This is one element from a very different stage play I attempted to get off the ground called "The Invasion" - a mental invasion by MAGA conspiracy wingnuts. Image War Of The Worlds breaking out during a live improv stage performance. You can't? Neither could my actor friends. #notgonnahappen #nope. 2464
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 10/07/2026The heart of 2001 began with Arthur C. Clarke's The Sentinel (1948). Kubrick reshaped the story into a cinematic masterpiece, leading Clarke to remark that it was "far more Kubrick's story than mine." Yet the central mystery—an ancient alien artifact waiting on the Moon—remained intact. 0365
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 05/07/2026Nobody predicts the future perfectly—not even Isaac Asimov. Some of his biggest misses are just as interesting as his biggest hits, and they remind us how difficult technological forecasting really is. #fuzzyface 3459
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 01/07/2026HAL wasn't the first fictional artificial intelligence. Decades before modern AI, science fiction introduced machines that could hold conversations, solve impossible problems, and even outthink humanity. Here's a look at the AIs that saw the future first. 2409
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 28/06/2026We'll get back to the Sci-Fi book stuff in a minute... 2493
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 26/06/2026H.G Wells got the atomic bomb right. World government, rational politics, and human nature? Not so much. Even the greatest futurists are shaped by the hopes and assumptions of their own time. Predicting technology is hard. Predicting people is even harder. 14810
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 23/06/2026What the hell is Robby supposed to do with the girl anyway? Wouldn't he be attracted to Maria from Forbidden Planet? #robothumping 2275
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 21/06/2026What? And I'm supposed to spend 2 hours creating a graphic just so everyone can ignore it? I thought the CONTENT was interesting...(which I spent some time researching). But OK...you don't like the pictures. 110
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 21/06/2026Pre-1940 robot fiction established many of the ideas that still shape modern AI and robotics. These stories introduced robots as workers, intelligent machine life, human-machine hybrids, emotional companions, and sympathetic protagonists. #ashisagoddamnrobot 46513

High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 13/06/2026Huh? A guide how to travel from now (via blow to the head or machine) to the 13th century...or a guide what to do when you reach the 13th century? 110
High Strangeness @bickernicks.bsky.social · 10/06/2026Before H.G. Wells, time travelers slept, dreamed, or got knocked out. Stories like Rip Van Winkle and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court moved people through time, but usually by magic/accident. He changed everything by turning time travel into a machine. #SciFi #HGWells #TimeTravel 46915
