Big thanks @burlingtongreen.bsky.social for cleaning up Burlington Beach (lake and harbour sides) on World Migratory Bird Day! 6 full bags. Plus, a BFHB team member cleaned up 3.5 bags at Windermere Basin Park in Hamilton. Way to get our shorelines ready for our winter avian visitors arriving soon!

As fall migration continues, please keep cats indoors. Ground-feeding sparrows are moving through our cities and are vulnerable to cats. Dark-eyed Juncos (also a ground-feeding sparrow) are returning for the winter. Both Hamilton & Burlington have by-laws restricting pets from roaming off property.

🐦💔 A tragic bird-window collision occurred at the iconic Tim Hortons at 65 Ottawa Street North. A member of the public captured the injured bird, but despite efforts, it sadly did not survive. This beloved Tim’s can lead by example in sustainability and help protect our local wildlife. 🌿✨

Anyone kayaking along the Waterfront Trail soon? 🚣‍♂️ We spotted a snagged fishing line bobber near the Waterfront Trail Lookout Point. If you’re on the water and can safely retrieve it, you’d be helping keep the shoreline safer for wildlife 💚

🌙✨ Spring migration is underway, and most birds fly while we sleep. From March to May, millions of songbirds navigate at night using the moon, stars, and darkness. Artificial light can disorient them, pulling birds off course and increasing the risk of deadly window collisions.
